The rarity of a "normal collision" fire still stands true. The first two are exceptions (metal debris and concrete barrier). This third is an unknown. The speculation will run rampant tomorrow.

I asked a Tesla store rep last week. He said it contains excess coolant for the batteries (or something to that effect). The technology is way out of my league, so I didn't inquire further. Would be great to get a definite opinion on what that box does...?

Pardon the ignorance. Does the time of announcement mean anything? It is likely the announcement is not all that big because it's a daytime announcement?

Guinea pigs? No. Early adopters? Yes, absolutely. I was in the Toronto store yesterday for a good hour. I'm still blown away by how almost nobody knows anything about the car. It was either "I know everything" 1/20 people, or "Is thisss a hybrid? What happens when you run out of battery?" 19/20.
