Wiki Everything you wanted to know about Intelligent Octopus But Were Afraid To Ask

Problem solved. Yesterday afternoon I removed by M3 from the Octopus App and went through the onboarding process again. I also did a software reboot on the M3. The car received an IO schedule early evening and charged from 43% to 80% overnight. After registering the M3 with IO I received an...

Wiki Everything you wanted to know about Intelligent Octopus But Were Afraid To Ask

I'm having trouble with failed IO sessions since the last software upgrade to my M3, although this might be a coincidence. The car has failed to charge the last two nights despite getting sessions in the Octopus App. The car is registered with Octopus. Also after a failed charge the Tesla app...

    Tesla Alternative?

I did have to a pay a little bit extra for the rest of the remaining 2 months insurance before renewal. The actual effect on the a full 12 months insurance is difficult to judge given the steep rises in Tesla insurance premiums over the last three years.

    Tesla Alternative?

Yes, I had the MPP Comfort Adjustable kit fitted to my 2019 M3P just over three years ago and can certainly recommend it. The handling and ride are transformed.

    Tesla Alternative?

Crashy ride can be fixed by having MPP coilovers and springs fitted. They even do a fully adjustable kit to cater for all tastes. The kit improves both the ride and body control. the crash ride is mainly due to the car hitting the bump stops which the MPP kit eliminates.

If the rise in insurance is because of repair costs why isn’t third party cheap too?

I have a 2019 M3P and have been insured with LV for the last 4 years. The latest quote to renew was an increase of ~80% over last year to £850 (15k miles/y, full protected NCB, 63 y old) despite moving from South Oxfordshire to rural Norfolk and overnight storage in a garage. After shopping...

I always check the Zapping is set on Fast before plugging in. However, I've just checked my Tesla App and it was set to 16A, so I've reset it to 32A. I'll see what happens tonight, but I'm pretty sure the Tesla/App is usually set to 16A and then automatically goes to 32A when the car starts...

Wiki Everything you wanted to know about Intelligent Octopus But Were Afraid To Ask

I've been using IO without any issues since my Zappi was fitted at our new house a couple of months ago, until the last couple of days when it has only given about half the KWh requested. On both occasions I had plugged in and got a charge schedule to take the M3P from ~40% to 85% but only...

LV insurance hike - quick sense check

Just had my renewal from LV for my 2019 M3P. It went up from £527 last year to £864, which is a 64% increase despite moving to a more rural area. I have full no claims and am 63 years old. After ringing LV to reduce the annual mileage from 15k to 10k, the price was reduced to £740 and then a...

Front end knocking sound Model Y performance

This sounds very similar to the noise on my 2019 M3P. It has been there from new. I‘ve had the MPP Comfort Adjustable coil over kit fitted, which replaces the dampers and springs. This made no difference to the knocking. Center Gravity fitted the kit and did the alignment. They are a specialist...

Snow with the Model Y RWD

One of the reasons I chose to fit winter tyres and wheels to my M3P, even though we rarely get snow in southern England, is that according to Michelin the summer tyres I use (Michelin PS4S) may be structurally damaged if put under load, i.e. driven, in temperatures of -7 C or less. Where I live...

    Tyre pressures recommendation on screen

I have a 2019 M3P and I have always run it with the tyre pressures set to 42 psi when cold as per the manual. However, the other day I noticed that the tyre pressure screen under Services is recommending 39 psi front and 40 psi rear. The message is in tiny print and may have been present for...

    Polestar 2 - Courtesy Car

2 EV Household - what else you got?

I've driven it a few times. It's quite nippy but no where near as fast as a M3. It handles well enough and a bit like a 911 as it's rear wheel drive and rear engined! The ride on the I3S is a bit bouncy for my taste. Standard I3 is better. It's great for urban/town driving because it's...

Anyone regretted getting a Performance M3?

Had my P since Sept 2019 with no regrets, but back then the price difference to the LR was only £3500. Unlike with ICE performance cars I have owned I haven’t got used to the acceleration which is still mind bending. I recently drove a 3LR back to back with my P and the acceleration difference...

Anyone regretted getting a Performance M3?

I definitely agree with this. I recently test drove a 2022 3LR back to back with my 2019 3P and the 3P felt significantly quicker and gave me that light headed feeling on full power whereas the 3LR didn't. Also the YLR felt significantly slower again than the 3LR.

    2021 Model 3 Performance 18" Winter Tyres

For a start I have a 2019 M3P rather than the refresh model. Also the winter wheels I have were designed specifically to fit the M3P and are loaded rated to 750 kg per wheel, which is more than 60% over the actual load. They come with a 3 year warranty. The Tesla 20" wheels are pretty weak...

    2021 Model 3 Performance 18" Winter Tyres

Surely for winter driving when there can be many more potholes on the roads it is sensible to go for wheels that allow use of higher profile tyres to protect the wheel rims from buckling, i.e. 18" wheels. They would be cheaper than 20" wheels too. £3588.40 is about 50% more than I paid including...

M3P Pilot Sport 4 vs Silent

I read somewhere that the foam in TO (acoustic) tyres is there to reduce resonances that can occur on some roads at certain speeds rather than overall noise levels. I notice that the 18" Continental Ultragrip Sport winter tyres on my M3P hum a bit on many road surfaces. Also coming from many...

    Model Y - Test Drive

The wife doesn't like to drive my car in case she damages it (it's happened previously ~20 years ago with my last new car though it wasn't her fault!), so another Tesla would have to be her car. Also don't want to get rid of my M3P as it's fitted with after market adjustable coiler suspension...

    Model Y - Test Drive

This afternoon my wife and I had a test drive of a Model YLR at Thorpe Park. [UK] 2021.44.30

Anyone else finding that for the last 2 weeks scheduled home charging defaults to 16A instead of the usual 32 A? I can change it by fiddling around with the charging current slider in the car, i.e repeated lowering charge Amps and then raising them until it allows levels > 16A. This doesn't work...

30 hour wait for recovery. Lessons learnt.

MPP in Canada do a Li replacement with BMS for the M3 (there was link earlier in this thread). Total price with shipping to UK is CAN$717 which is £418 minus taxes, so at least £500 with VAT. I think there would be 10% import duty as well, so Approx £542. That buys a lot of Pb acid batteries...

Wiki [UK] V11 UI Changes and Features

Regarding acceleration being the answer - I added two smilies indicating that I was joking. However, my point about visibility out of the rear window being poor still stands, even when window is clear. I also have a 2002 Porsche Boxster which I have owned since 2005 and driven over 160,000...

Wiki [UK] V11 UI Changes and Features

But in vehicles where a physical button operates the heated rear window you still have to the your eyes off the road to find it. In the M3 you could argue the heated rear window is not that useful since the rear facing camera gives a better view for reversing and when driving forwards the M3...

Why I believe the Tesla M3 AWD is the only really viable EV

My average speed was 62 mph actual which is probably the equivalent of at least 65 mph indicated, but ranged between <20 mph and *** mph, neither of which give good efficiency.

Why I believe the Tesla M3 AWD is the only really viable EV

My experience of my 2019 M3P this week has reinforced why it's so good for long journeys even in winter. I had been staying overnight near Manchester in the Worsley Park Hotel and had to drive home to just south of Oxford (171 miles) leaving the hotel at 5 pm. I was not particularly looking...

    2021 Model 3 Performance 18" Winter Tyres

I've been using Goodyear Ultragrip Performance winter tyres on 18* TSportline wheels on my M3P for the last two winters without issue. I've probably driven 5k mile in total on these tyres. The differences I have noticed to the Michelin PS4S summer tyres on 20" wheels are a slight tuck in when...

    Spare rims for winter tyres

I got a set of 18" wheels for my M3P for winter use nearly two years ago. Because of the uncertainty over fitment of 18" wheels over the larger brake callipers on the performance model, standard Tesla 18" wheel won't fit, I went for proven aftermarket wheels designed for the M3P from the US...

Tyre pressure alert this morning - all values the same?

I don't believe the TPMS is that accurate, at least on my 2019 M3P. I used to note that the tyre pressure reading was lowish, e.g.39, 40 psi, when they start giving a reading within the first couple of miles. However when I checked the pressure with my TUV approved tyre gauge the pressures were...

Tyre pressure reduced due to hot weather?

You need to check the tyre pressures with an accurate gauge when the car hasn’t been driven for at least 2 hours and the tyres are not in direct sunlight. The tyre pressures should then be adjusted to 42 psi or your chosen pressure. Then do a reset of the TPMS and go for a drive. The car should...
