    Tesla UK T0 Tyre Directive

Apologies, I forgot to come back and update this thread! I had no response from my enquiries via Tesla, not that I expected to. However the Costco branch & tyre shop managers did do an investigation (which took a week or so) and found there was a general misconception of the rules amongst their...

    Tesla UK T0 Tyre Directive

Brief update on my escalation to Costco HQ, the branch manager of my local Costco called to say they're conducting an investigation to try and find out where this information came from, and clarify whether or not it's genuine. Will be a few days before they can confirm as the supervisor of the...

MY tints, no one will do it! East Sussex

I suspect the comment about "sensors" is a miscommunication on the part of the installer the OP has spoken to. In reality they are almost certainly talking about the damage that has been caused to rear window defrosters while tinting Tesla's, as that runs along the edge of the glass. There was...

    Tesla UK T0 Tyre Directive

Will pop an update here if I hear anything back from Tesla. I've also reached out to Costco directly with similar questions, their HQ said someone from the local branch management should come back to me tomorrow. Shall see what they have to say!

    Tesla UK T0 Tyre Directive

To be clear - I am well aware there are other suppliers available (I have prices from them already), that isn't the purpose of this thread. Costco are well known for being particularly strict with their fitting, and so the fact that others are prepared to do so isn't in itself relevant here. My...

    Tesla UK T0 Tyre Directive

Due to a tracking issue I'm in the market for new front tyres for my Model 3. I called Costco earlier today to get a price on four CrossClimate 2's, and was told that Tesla has recently issued a directive that prohibits them from fitting anything that isn't T0. This was confirmed by two people...

    Tesla paint repairs (Milton Keynes)

I can recommend Frosts Accident Repairs, they're in MK and are the Tesla approved Body & Paint Repairer. They've done two repairs to my M3 (one a touchup, the other was a new bumper & respray) and their work was excellent. Priced competitively as well!

[Repair] Just bumped into someone in the car park…

You can always make a "notification only" declaration to your insurer, that will fulfil the requirement to notify them without them handling a claim - leaving you still deal with the repairs privately. Your insurer will then close their case after a few months on the basis they haven't heard...

Optimising Solar PV / PowerWall to Use instead of Export

Your best bet for off the shelf would be something like Home Assistant and/or Node Red, both can be used for automating tasks based on events within the home. However they don't natively support weather prediction, just reporting what the forecast is (although Node Red can run ML inference...

    Octopus Energy Free Electricity

Octopus always uses local time, and therefore moves according to daylight savings (and so is on BST now). They are not using zulu time (i.e. UTC). Source: FAQs about Octopus Go, the tariff just for EV drivers .

Maintain charge limit after charge session has ended

The car will use 7kW to heat the battery, plus that which it needs to heat the cabin (which varies depending on your vehicle age). Since your wall box will be providing at most 7kW this can result in the battery being slightly depleted - unless you wait long enough for the battery and cabin to...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Well in fairness that was already the case before today, if materials exceeds 60% of the total cost then you pay 20% VAT on the materials (incl Panels), and just the labour gets 5% VAT. I'm going to be proposing to my installer that they look to split this into two separate installations - PV...
  13. D

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Also crucially "or the 60% threshold not being exceeded" means that any battery on the installation would mean the PV panels wouldn't qualify for 0%. As the total hardware cost will exceed 60% (with installation/labour making up 40% ).

    Insurance

It matches based on your name, address and number plate. If you change those you get a result, a private browser window doesn't help in the least bit.
  15. D

    Insurance

That's pretty common, you should find results start appearing again after a few months. Insurers like to play games with their use of the comparison sites, I've noticed before that my current insurer will remove themselves from search results 45-60 days before renewal so you can't get a...

    Charging cost per Kwh

Go Faster is technically still a "beta" tariff, and so isn't available publicly. However you can call-in/email and ask whether you can join, and normally they'll send you over an invite!

TWC Gen3 with an earth rod?

I had an EVSE (not a Tesla Wall Connector) installed with an earth rod a couple of weeks ago. Absolutely nothing wrong with using one - it just seems there's a trend among some Electrician's to take the easier (for them) & more expensive route of installing a GARO or Matt-E unit.

Tesla open up the SuC network [in UK]

It's mostly C, but not as regards to vehicle sales. Tesla started this as a beta test in the Netherlands, where it was expanded to eventually also cover a selection of chargers in France & Norway. Then most recently to all chargers in NL. From Tesla's FAQ's on the trial:

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

I bought in on the share offer for their second wind farm today, I'm doing that though in addition to fitting PV - to offset winter consumption.
  21. D

can anyone check my energy calculations please ?

Your consumption might be 30% higher in winter - largely thanks to wind & road conditions - but that's not overall for the year! For example my non-heatpump M3 will average 240-260Wh/mi in Summer, but closer to 300Wh/mi in Winter. Those figures include all usage for the car, driving, HVAC etc...
  22. D

can anyone check my energy calculations please ?

Their peak rates & standing charge will do, but so far they have retained the off-peak discounted rates for Go, Go Faster etc. Out of interest, where did your figure of 30% for phantom drain come from? That seems very excessive!

Alternative to UK VED (car tax)

That report doesn't appear to be an accurate reading of the actual legislation. The draft 2021 bill was converted into a Statutory Instrument ("The Electric Vehicles (Smart Charge Points) Regulations 2021"). I've quoted the relevant section below, crucially this only stipulates that the owner...

    Short/long stay airport parking

Yes the HV battery is disconnected whenever the car is asleep. When you return to the car, or if you wake it via the app when you're standing next to it, you'll hear a "clunk" sound as the contactors close.
  25. D

    Short/long stay airport parking

Thanks for digging out the official position - my figures were based on my car's resting consumption via Teslamate. My car hasn't been driven or charged since before New Year - and averaged 0.4% per day across that period, and just 2% total over the first/last 7 days. That is with it being...
  26. D

    Short/long stay airport parking

Definitely disable sentry mode, that'll eat several % per day otherwise. You can use valet mode if you want to limit the driver's speed and prevent access to the glovebox & frunk. Otherwise so long as Sentry is disabled the car will sit in a "deep sleep" state until you return, this means very...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

To qualify that, the 5% VAT rate is only where the materials are less than 60% of the total amount. For a PowerWall (or similar large capacity battery) it is highly unlikely that there are enough installation/labour costs to make up 40%. Source: Tax on shopping and services

    Octopus go - Still available?

Mine ended earlier this week... and surprisingly it showed a "new tariff" that was identical to what I was on. I'm a few days in and the account is still showing the old pricing. Has happened to a few apparently, though not clear why.

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

The issue for the DNO's is not so much the local cabling (unbundling aside), but rather the aging transformers they often have. There was a guy from Western Power Distribution at Fully Charged Live in September who explained this better than I can, but in effect the LV networks weren't designed...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

Different solutions fit different people, I wasn't specifically providing a design to meet your use-case - rather I was offering an alternative not often discussed and one that I'm persuing. I'm glad you're enjoying the benefits of your PowerWall! The 5kVA unit I mentioned is the one...

Victron MultiPlus-II, it holds the requisite G98 & G99 certification for islanding in the UK. Doesn't require an external gateway, as the PowerWall does. I am planning an install of one in the new year, along with ~20 kWh of PylonTech batteries (plus PV). The "ESS" system will act in an...

    Trip to Rotterdam Via EuroTunnel

On the contrary, I recall reading here that Eurotunnel originally loaded Tesla's onto the standard car carriages. That was until a Model 3 (IIRC) grounded out on the upper deck loading ramp, the ensuing repair cost (i.e. battery) convinced Eurotunnel to reclassify them as Wide Vehicles.

Exclusive 50kw charging - battery damage

Yes, there's only two charging counters in the BMS (at least exposed on CANBUS) - AC and DC. So the speed of charging is in effect immaterial, since the nerf/limit on supercharging speed will be applied from that DC counter. However it's far too early to make any predictions, there aren't...

    [UK] 2021.12.x

I doubt it... my suspicion would be that it's coordinated via the Tesla API & the car's network connection. Hopefully that means that we all gain the ability to remotely change the charge current limit, rather than having to go to the car to do it!

    TeslaMate [megathread]

Likely an issue with your new router. PiVPN requires UPnP to be enabled for it to automatically configure a hole to accept VPN connections over. Worst case you can manually configure your TalkTalk router with a Port Forward to your PiVPN instead.
  37. D

    TeslaMate [megathread]

The car doesn't report it's actual consumption via the API, Teslamate has to calculate it from the observed trip distance, reported battery level and reported current range. You can see an example of the data available from the unofficial API documentation below: { "response": { "id"...

    TeslaMate [megathread]

No the bug won't be related to your specific issue - it stops it from generating a cost at all, or produces one slightly too high (calculating using the higher rate instead of the lower). Was just sharing it to the wider board here! I enter my costs as 0.142 and 0.055 for my Go Faster tarrif...

    [Question] Trade-in experience

If you have one nearby I would recommend selling to Arnold Clark. They bought my ICE with basically no-notice after Tesla moved up my order by a quarter. Got a better price than WBAC et all, and no quibbles about condition.

How do I get the web browser to recognise I'm in the UK? Want to watch BBC iPlayer!

Tesla fits their cars with European eSIM cards, which spend their time roaming across all of the networks. Your car will either have a Dutch or Spanish registered SIM in there, and that's why often you'll see Dutch adverts on YouTube for example. It also means though that iPlayer, ITV Hub etc...

    TeslaMate [megathread]

I think it's worth clarifying here that Teslamate & TeslaFi handle their data gathering from the cars entirely differently, and has been the case now for a good 9+ months. Teslamate now just subscribes to the Tesla API, and is automatically pushed any updates that the car sends back to Tesla...

Higher value EVs not eligible for £3,000 PiCG (grant) anymore!

When the grant was changed last year I had an order outstanding, and it transpired that Tesla applies for the grant as soon as you complete all of the paperwork in your Tesla Account. Once the grant application has been made it's guaranteed for a period (can't remember if it's 6 or 9 months)...

Interesting charge at Source London on Warren St

Most likely there's a red-faced developer around thought it was a good idea to validate payment information with a £10k preauthorisation instead of a more sensible £0.01, £1 or £50.

Higher value EVs not eligible for £3,000 PiCG (grant) anymore!

Folks with orders in already should be protected from this change. Tesla applies for the grant as soon as you complete all the order paperwork, and I believe from that point they have 6 months to deliver the car. May mean you need to be careful with changing specification though!
