Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I had to laugh. So few have even the remotest clue as to how much the fossil fuel industry profits from the status quo--it's why they fight like Hell to retain the status quo, usually through proxies and politicians, despite the tremendous risk it poses to our entire planet's future. (FYI...

Full FSD Free Trial: Why I'd never buy it . . . ever.

Did we see any reference to what VERSION of FSD was used by the OP? AFAIK, we are seeing substantial step change improvements in 12.3.5, and they're coming in far faster than normal . . . . A snapshot/single data point is NOT a trend. Recommend you update to the latest version and revisit...

    EV-CPO.com CPO Consolidator support thread

Sadly, there's still no way to sort for Plaids again, and ditto for 2024 Model Year cars. Both result with no returns. Lastly, two suggestions: 1. When searching for Model Year, the drop down menu begins with 2012; better to drop down from 2025 or 2024 as most will search for latest MY. 2...

Alignment is Perfect, STILL Pulling to the Left

Thanks--I'll take a look on a lift with some bright light and poke around some more. At least I won't have to remove a bunch of underbody panels if it's a similar broken bushing!

Is this normal or they will denied

I would consider changing your order to the new Model 3 Performance ASAP as it IS eligible for the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit, which makes it a very, very good value in comparison to the Long Range M3 (which is NOT eligible). It's simply a stunning car, and a far better value (yes, they ramble...

Alignment is Perfect, STILL Pulling to the Left

Where is this bushing, exactly? Front or rear suspension? Top or bottom? I ask as our '22 MS Plaid has become very peculiar of late, with a STRONG pull to the right on deceleration, and oddly, sometimes on acceleration. A quick visual inspection on a lift doesn't reveal much so I guess the...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Yes, Tesla has more data on battery degradation than anyone on Earth, and yet we have absurdly short battery warranties that kills BOTH used Tesla sales, and resale value, over the long term. Why?!? Tesla should step up and increase the HV battery (and powertrain) warranties across the board...

2021+ Model S and Model S Plaid Refresh Issues Thread

What's the "procedure" for the rear seat rattle? We have it, mostly with any torsional loads on the body (such as turning or entering/exiting a driveway, etc.) and it IS exasperating. Why can't Tesla get this fixed once and for all?!?

Downgraded Audio? Might want to let buyers know [rwd vs awd]

It's likely too late, but please visit the Gallery where you test drove the Dual Motors and see if they can escalate this with a fair value-"OOPS" trade-in on your RWD MY, one that makes you whole-ish so that you may upgrade to a Dual Motor/Long Range MY . . . . Can't hurt to ask, and ALSO ask...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Not Chinese, but would that particular issue have affected ALL brands, not just Tesla? Most likely reason is that early-in-the-quarter EXPORTS from China decreased the number of China domestic-sale Teslas available, as has been the norm for many quarters now, no?

Do please provide a YT link so that we may check the validity of his test, if you can find it. Tesla spends a massive amount of (very expensive) time on wheels and wheel covers in the wind tunnel as they have a large impact on aerodynamic drag, and as a follow on impact: range. Here's why...

    Tire foam, remove or not?

Seems like a bit of stretch, no? The foam makes a measurable impact on road noise. Puncture repair is easily accomplished at any tire repair shop at minimal cost, far, far less than the cost you will pay to remove the foam for a perceived fear that the foam may come loose . . . . Leave well...

Had to order new tires sooner than I wanted...

Not my experience. Received a new set of 21" Michelin OEM tires from Michelin for our '22 MS Plaid after inner sidewall delamination/tread separation on the rear tires. Simply file a claim on their website and keep your old tires (if needed for warranty replacement).

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

No, of course not. But it's an RT. It can decide when it's battery is too cold for safe regen based on how much regen MAY be needed for any given drive. High altitude pick up near a mountain west of Denver, for a drop off in Denver? A lot of regen may be needed. Flat lands of Wichita? Not...
  19. T

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

While this is the investment thread, you assume that regen will be insufficiently powerful to apply sufficient negative torque. I don't believe that assumption is accurate. I hope to find out on 8 August at the RT reveal.
  20. T

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

In an RT they will be--the car won't ever be at the top of a mountain with a full charge and unable to regen . . .
  21. T

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

That's the key. In an RT there won't be any "regen unavailable" situations . . . because it won't let itself get into those. (Also, since when does "low battery" not allow for regen?)

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

Curious if anyone knows: is there a Tesla TSB or other solution to the incessant rear seatback rattles? We have it on three 2022 MS's, and despite repair visits, they all still rattle and/or creak whenever there is a torsional load on the body--pretty piss poor design/build quality for what...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

You forgot a big one: BRAKES. The Robotaxi won't have a need for 40 to 50 lbs, PER CORNER, of unsprung mass: heavy brake rotors, calipers, pads, and more. They'll instead need a very small parking brake, likely mounted inboard at the motor. Software will simply upscale braking as needed to...

Plaid 21” rear tire woes - factory defect?

For the 59th time, the SIDEWALL tears away from the tread, eventually leading to a nearly impossible to notice pending tire failure with ONLY the OEM 21” Michelin tire mounted on the Plaid MS…and NOT the 19” OEM Pirelli tire. It is NOT a wear issue. And, NO, the inner sidewall is NOT rubbing...
  27. T

Plaid 21” rear tire woes - factory defect?

Yes, please submit photographs AND file a warranty claim with Michelin (Discount Tire is a pretty good supplier for replacement OEM tires BTW). KEEP your old tires for your claim as you may need them for Michelin! (Michelin's website has a link where you can file your claim.) Also, please...

Tesla Denied Buyback After Suspension Fell Off Due to Service Center Negligence

First, simply Google "[your state] lemon law" to see exactly what is required for a "lemon" in your specific state. Second, once you find out how often it needs to be returned for an identical repair, then ensure you've got it back to Tesla for that number of visits, plus one if possible (just...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Great! If Tesla has all the real world data on battery longevity, then why won't they give a four-year/80k mile warranty on the replacement battery packs?!? Instead, they charge two arms and a leg for a replacement and the customer gets to HOPE they won't be back for a new one a lousy TWO...
  31. T

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Which truly begs the question, with around $30 BILLION in cash sitting around, why does Tesla STILL not have a finance arm? Forcing customers to get their own financing, and paying interest to them instead of Tesla, is a huge missed opportunity on Tesla's part. If I had to guess, Elon wants...

Be aware that any staggard fitment (larger rear tires than the front) halves the Michelin Tire Warranty IIRC . . . thus, your 60k tire warranty instantly becomes 30k.

How long did it take you to get used to the stalk-less turn signals?

On the contrary, had anyone run any experiments on this change, OBJECTIVE DATA would have clearly demonstrated that removing the turn signal stalk would degrade driver response time and nearly preclude turns signal use in sharp roundabouts, among other issues. Sadly, however, a videogame loving...

Plaid 21” rear tire woes - factory defect?

Because it appears to occur next to ZERO times on the OEM 19" Pirelli tires, despite the same suspension . . . yet the sidewall/tread delamination is very, very common among seemingly every Michelin 21" OEM Plaid rear tire.

    Lowering amperage a good thing?

Another reason to avoid regular "max amp charging" if possible--even if your install is "to code" and installed by a licensed electrician, problems can still arise. Granted, it's anecdotal and possibly an outlier, but still worthy of review:
  38. T

Plaid 21” rear tire woes - factory defect?

For the umpteenth time, THIS IS NOT TIRE WEAR. This is your OEM Michelin tire DEFECT. The tires come apart internally and this is how it manifests, which occurs next to never with the exact same suspension and the OEM Pirelli 19" tires . . . . Your replacement tires should have been FREE, as...

Plaid center console light turns off when fully opened?

Furthermore, the new MS suffers from the "911 problem" in that the rear doors also flare out before the rear fender, leading to lots of paint chips there too--I'd sent pics but it's 0430h right now. As a result, we ended up PPF'ing two of our MS's and a third has bad paint chips in many...

2021 Model S Plaid Steering Yoke shaking at highway speeds

Yes, but I think Track Mode has to be engaged in Park IIRC? Also, shifting power aft and forward and back, stopping at intermediate points will likely help isolate, IF it's a motor issue. Good luck!
  42. T

2021 Model S Plaid Steering Yoke shaking at highway speeds

Try going into Track Mode and shifting power delivery from 100% aft and forward--worth a shot to see if it's a motor issue . . . otherwise, I'm baffled. Another option, although rare: we had a '13 P85 that vibrated in gentle curves at highway speed. They found a bent strut (or two) IIRC...

The Cybertruck is more expensive to supercharge than a Ford F-150 costs in gas

On the contrary, it is the OPPOSITE of faith. Pity that too many are of similar mindset--"I've dumped my GHG's and to heck with those that follow." The externalities will be devasting, but fortunately, posts like yours help others that do care to ACT, hopefully before the feedback loops...

The Cybertruck is more expensive to supercharge than a Ford F-150 costs in gas

As a reminder, the transition to EV's results in LESS mining and extraction, not more . . . or do people really think that drilling, refining, and then burning fossil fuels is some sort of a "freebie" for the environment? Details, at great length, here: https://www.tesla.com/impact

The Cybertruck is more expensive to supercharge than a Ford F-150 costs in gas

Wow, the hoops people jump through to avoid doing anything to leave a usable planet are really something. If you can put your mental gymnastic skills to rest, perhaps you might find that if you use the sun's energy to power your home and EV's, you'll use less or no power from fossil fuels...

Work in progress: stalks on 2021 Model S. (and optional round-y wheel)

2021 MS LR+ rattling sound upon hard acceleration

Yeah, no. You'll need to document this better (date and time stamp your video, and add some video as audio isn't sufficient IMO). Then give Tesla multiple opportunities to address. Document EVERYTHING. Then, if not repaired, review Lemon Law statutes in your state or province.

What surprised me the most: The friggin' front door card trim finally lines up with the IP--and it only took two and half years! (Sadly, the right rear door card doesn't quite align with the C-pillar trim. Perhaps by 2026 or '27?)
