Service center experience: trading my 3 in for a Mercedes

You do realize that article is satirical, right? But hey, if you don't like Wikipedia, how about Webster's dictionary: Definition of socialism any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and...

Service center experience: trading my 3 in for a Mercedes

"Socialism is a political, social and economic philosophy encompassing a range of economic and social systems characterised by social ownership[1][2][3] of the means of production[4][5][6][7] and workers' self-management of enterprises." Government services are social welfare, a completely...

How Soon Until VIN Appears in the Online Store

"End to end" security doesn't mean secure. So the communications between the phone and the garage door opener is secure, fine, okay, that's cool. It doesn't mean that Chamberlain's security on their cloud service side is any good. In fact, quick Googling has shown instances of poor security on...

    Koenigsegg Gemera

Here are a couple of links with details, starting with an Engineering Explained video: Also a Tesmanian article: Tesla Model 3 Called Best EV Daily Driver by Christian von Koenigsegg Reddit article: Christian von Koenigsegg: The Model 3 is "the best contemporary 'normal' daily driver around."...

How Soon Until VIN Appears in the Online Store

It's the "granting others access to my garage door from anywhere in the world" that's the problem. I generally trust Apple's security. It's Chamberlain's that I don't trust. Non-tech companies have a horrible history when it comes to internet security.

Not sure if someone else mentioned it somewhere on here already, but his daily driver is a Model 3 and he says it's currently the best daily driver on the market.

How Soon Until VIN Appears in the Online Store

Garage door in the cloud? Hell no for a ton of reasons (I got into a mild flame war over this in another thread). I had this option when I had my new opener installed years ago and I absolute refused. If installing Homelink is that crazy, I'll probably just stick with the traditional opener and...

How Soon Until VIN Appears in the Online Store

So I'm wanting to buy the Homelink module but my VIN isn't showing up in the store, despite having one and my car scheduled for delivery this coming Tuesday. Will it not show up until then? No biggie, I guess. I suppose I can wait to get that installed later.

    Body improvements since Monroe teardown?

Fit and finish wasn't the issue. Munro's teardown was looking at details underneath the fit and finish, like the body frame and such. It's not something you'll be able to notice unless you literally take the car apart, piece by piece.

Service center experience: trading my 3 in for a Mercedes

I'd argue you're not even 100% right, though you're closer to the target. You are completely right that socialism isn't the government passing laws and regulations. Socialism isn't even the government providing services (such as police, fire department, military, like you mentioned). It's the...

New or Used, I am sure it's been asked

I would have bought a used Model 3 if I could have found one, but haven't had much luck with any that seemed worth my while. So I went with new. I generally prefer buying certified pre-owned whenever possible, though. Both my previous cars were CPO. I even contemplated buying a CPO Model S, but...

Model 3 just arrived, which floormats are better?

The Tesla ones are apparently produced by Weathertech for Tesla. The shipping labels on the boxes also seem to give the same impression. I've got mine sitting in their boxes still, waiting until I get my car on Tuesday.

    Sentry Mode Battery Usage

Okay, so round it off to about 1 mile/hour for my model to be safe... Works for me.

    Sentry Mode Battery Usage

I'm getting my new M3 next week, but I have a couple of weekend trips coming up where I'll have the car in a parking garage without any charging available for said weekends. If I were to have Sentry mode enabled during those times, how much battery drain would I be looking at?

Interior camera question - is it being used currently but not reported?

I've seen some reviews of minivans where there is a back seat camera that lets the driver see what's going on back there on the main infotainment display. Usually you seem to see it in minvans and other family vehicles where you could have small kids acting up in back. I wonder if the field of...

    LR AWD Waiting Room

I'm coming close to the oil change time for my car with respect to my trade-in day. If I'm only off by 100 miles or so I'm just doing the reset thing myself instead of paying $50 or whatever to change the oil. The service sticker will stay in the car in case whoever Tesla hands the car off to...

    Education lesson for the day

As someone whose name is often mispronounced, I do take name mispronunciations pretty personally. :) Although usually I gently and politely correct those who get it wrong. First time mispronouncing my name: eh, no problem, here's how it's actually pronounced. Continue to mispronounce my name...

    LR AWD Waiting Room

I felt the same about my interior. I was thinking about the white since I've always had black interiors with my cars and was worried about it getting very hot in the summer. But then I heard the remote AC start and related features combined with how the white sometimes can stain and that made my...

    Education lesson for the day

As a long time fan of Nikola Tesla (and having a bit of a thing for Tesla coils since high school, as my avatar shows), I've always pronounced it as "Tess-lah." I cringe very slightly whenever I hear someone use the "z" sound with it.

model 3 dual motor long range/range

Slower speeds and more chances for regenerative braking. My uncle owns a Prius that he mostly drives in city mode and he almost never hears the gas engine kick in while in the city. Hybrids and electrics work kind of in reverse to ICE in that stop and go traffic actually is somewhat more...

Here near Boston, some of the major hospitals and their satellite offices for outpatient treatment also pretty much require valet parking, so I hear you there. I'm going to use my card, but I also got this gizmo so that valets can hang it up on their key holders like a normal key...

Ordered Damn, no update on mine and I ordered mine Jan 26. Funny thing is that I visited the Tysons Tesla dealership a week before I ordered. I was visiting my son, who lives in the area with his mom, and took him on a test drive... Both of us were giggling like fools, lol.

Easiest way is to go to the "Manage My Tesla" page on a desktop browser and (depending on your browser, OS, etc., this may vary), right click on an empty part of the page and choose "View Source." How many of you still carry keys?

My main thing is that it's much easier to forge a copy of a license than an actual license. Not that forging a license is all that hard, as anyone in a college town can probably attest to.
  33. DMLou

How many of you still carry keys?

Might depend on your jurisdiction. I can't imagine the cops around here letting someone get away with that... but maybe that's just me.

Interior camera question - is it being used currently but not reported?

The owners' manual also states it's for future use. That said, I'd be strongly in favor of one of the future uses being for driver alertness checking, if possible. Nothing against robo taxi mode either if they ever get that working. That would be cool too. However, I think improved driver...

It took me six months to notice..

With all due respect, are you an RF engineer? I mean, Tesla seems to have built one that works okay in the car, but does it work better than ones contained within the shark fin? Sure, it may be "good enough," but that doesn't mean it's the best or even as good as a shark fin antenna. As I said...

It took me six months to notice..

$100 Order fee is a fee, and not a deposit?

In my case, the $100 was deducted from the purchase price of the car in MA, at least if I remember correctly. So yeah, perhaps it does vary state-by-state.
  39. DMLou

How many of you still carry keys?

I'll still carry keys, though just a house key and a key for my PO box. But I also carry a small Swiss army knife and USB drive on my keychain, so it still works as a "handy toolkit" instead of just something to hold my keys.

    Wall connector or 14-50 socket

Given the fact that it seems like all the NEMA 14-50 adapters appear to be out of stock, it seems like one would have no choice but to go with the wall connector at this point (at least until they come back in stock). I went with the wall connector, partly due to the out of stock issue, and...

Wow, we need to find another way to heat EVs

Two words: biodielsel heater. Biodiesel should theoretically be carbon-neutral at least. I mean, you can make it from used cooking oil from your local fast food joint! So it's recycled too! Kidding aside, I'll wait and see how good/bad it is when I get my car here in New England. I tend to keep...

Wife wants a VOLVO, I'm going to suggest a Tesla.

There is an electric XC40 coming out some time this year. However, the range seems lacking as last I checked it looked to be at around 200 miles. Yes, the electric XC40 was one of the cars I was considering before I settled on my (still waiting for the VIN) Model 3.

    Winter Car Washing Options

While it looks like my Model 3 won't be delivered until after the worst of this winter, I still want to know what people do when they need to wash road salt and related grime off their cars in the middle of a freezing cold winter.
