Tesla infotainment system upgradeable from MCU1 to MCU2

I have a late 2016 90D AWD with FSD and HW3 computer upgrade. I have not received an upgrade since 2020.48. I this because I am still on MCU1? My MCU has occasionally blanked out but not lately. My understanding is that it is just a matter of time until it does. the band aid software patch seems...

    Anyone got HW3 retrofit yet?

My M3 upgrade was completed last week, forgot to post. Early VIN 2XXX, working fine though I lost my Homelink settings and driver profiles. Annoying but not a big deal. Now seeing traffic lights and cones. Seems to be better at visualizing bicycles and pedestrians. Now I have to wait for my...

    Anyone got HW3 retrofit yet?

I have a service appointment for 2 year checkup, service bulletin items and for HW3 next week for my M3 RWD. Appointment has been confirmed. Pretty early VIN 2XXX. Have had no problems in the 2 years I've had the car other than minor panel alignment issues in the first week.

Self parking in a very tight garage - doable?

I've used summon to enter and exit a very tight garage almost daily with my S and occasionally with the 3. It has on rare occasions stopped and refused to go on. I visually check and if OK, almost always is, hit forward again. Without it I could not get out of the car. Again, though it has...

Tesla posts FSD demo video of Model 3

Impressive route with a variety of street and freeway driving including complex interchanges. But, they also revealed a level of navigation not current supported. All we can currently program is point to point navigation. This went well beyond this. Does this mean that waypoints are finally...

    RIP Panoramic Roof... :(

Got the Pano Roof because it enables mounting a roof rack and the solid roof does not. Seldom open it, but really like the light and added sense of space. I like the Glass Roof option even better, but I don't know if it has mounting points. Not an issue at the moment as my stable is full with...

Model 3 Key Fob is here: $150

The Model 3 is my third Tesla. I have been driving and advocating for Tesla since 2013. I bought the M3 to replace my wife's 2011 LEAF and took delivery in December 2017. The phone as key option has never worked reliably for her (Galaxy 5) and she is seriously fed up with the car. It works...

    Powerwall 2: SGIP/Incentives

There is hope. It does, however, take patience. Started the SGIP process November 2017. My SGIP reservation for a two PowerWall installation was confirmed January 10th 2018. After multiple re-submissions for incomplete information and several DocuSigns, all done initially by SolarCity then...

    Phone as Key Issues

It is finally working on both my and my wife's phones. My confidence that it will continue to work is, unfortunately low. I am careful to always have the key card with me, just in case. Happily, I have not had to use it in over a week.

    Model 3 - Key Fob yes/no?

I am really happy for all for whom the phone key is working reliably. We've had our 3 since December 27. My Galaxy S7 was easy to set up and worked fine for about a week and then became reliable. My wife's S5 never worked. I did the usual uninstall and reinstall the app dance making sure...

Already on 50.11 but just got an update notification.

My phone, Galaxy S7, worked briefly after updating to 50.12. My Wife's S5 has never worked. I am on my third Tesla and as such have learned patience, but this is getting to be ridiculous. Opening the door and driving are very basic essential functions for a car. I can accept slow rollout of...

    Phone as Key Issues

Great if you can get an AT&T signal. Verizon works great at my location, AT&T barely. We need WiFi to work.

With 50.11 we were never able to connect my wife's Samsung Galaxy S5, My S7 connected occasionally then not at all. With 50.12 both are connecting and working. So far so good.

    Model 3 - Key Fob yes/no?

Phone performance as a key has been very hit an miss, Digging out the card is a pain. Unless they get the phone solution working reliably I would much prefer the enhanced functionality of the fob for opening trunk and frunk and more importantly for using summon when it finally arrives.

Model 3 Users - Firmware Bugs & Wish Lists & Undesirables

For me Summon is essential, I have a very tight garage and use summon all the time for my S. Before Summon I had to be a contortionist. As to Bugs: Phone Key has been very inconsistent. My wife's Android S7 has only connected once , at the dealer, and not since. Going in tomorrow. Biggest...

    Model 3 Backup Camera Sucks

Have you tried in in the country where there is no ambient light source. The image is so dark that I can see virtually nothing. I'm on my 2nd model S and have driven Teslas since since early 2013. I can live with the fisheye but not with the dark image. It could be as simple to fix as...

Discussion for Model S owners considering moving into a Model 3

Keeping my 90D with free lifetime charging for road trips and getting the M3 to replace my 2011 LEAF. The increased utility and range of the M3 will then be the daily driver. The LEAF has only ever been good as a local errand car. My Original 2013 85S was replaced at 80K miles to get the...

Are Teslas more prone to getting rear-ended?

I remember a post from an Italian driver way back in in 2013 or 14. He wanted to know if he could disable the brake lights coming on with regenerative braking. Apparently it is a point of pride to drive without hitting the brake on curving mountain roads. The constant brake lights made him...

    Summon Capability

I find it incredibly useful. Before summon I had to be a contortionist to get into the car with the window open. I had to park very close to the wall so my SO could get into her car. After summon, problem solved easy in and out car parks itself and exits itself. I'll take this relatively...

    Powerwall 2: Installation

Two Powerwalls installed June 17-18. Same problem you had, they were unable to "commission" the system it would not sustain a connection. Tried both WiFi and Ethernet connections. Both seemed solid. They've opened a ticket with engineering. All I get now is two blinking green lights which...

Almost a disastrous 1st trip (but it isn’t over)

I drove my first Model S for 80,000 miles and have taken many long road trips. I can count the number of times I have had trouble getting a solid connection on the first try on one hand. On the other hand, I have had numerous problems plugging in my 6 year old LEAF using a ChaDeMo charger...

FIRMWARE UPDATE! AP2 Local road driving...and holy crap

I wish people would stop referencing the "deceptive video". This video has little to do with AP2 but is presenting a vision of FSD. FSD is not implemented in any car today and is not "expected" any sooner than the end of the year, and will probably be significantly later. It was produced to...

    Supercharger - Klamath Falls, OR

If I remember correctly, most of Hwy 97 has a 55 mph speed limit. Drive it this slowly at your peril. I tried it once to make it to Bend with a head wind. Never got more angry looks. It was a relief when I reached a point where I could safely increase my speed and make my destination. This...

    whispbar with cargo box

I have used the Whispbar system on my model S since 2013 (now on my 2016 90D). I use the Inno box and found it to be the lowest profile and most aerodynamic. Fits 5 pairs of skis up to 190 cm long. On average Wind drag reduces range by about 15% depending on weather.

    Right-wing campaign against Musk

My thoughts exactly. The Electrek article that spawned this thread is dated 9/22. I remain optimistic about Tesla's future. Just bought my second MS and have a M3 reservation to replace a 2011 LEAF. Hopefully, Trump will realize that Tesla epitomizes his goal for American innovation and...

How often do you open sunroof (pano roof)?

We rarely open the Pano roof and we would prefer the glass roof. Sadly, this is not an option because we need to be able to install a rack and this is only possible with the Pano roof.

    Tesla moments

Since we seem to be on a frunk theme, Here's my favorite. We've done a lot of road trips and were in the trailhead parking lot at Olympic National Park. We keep our hiking boots and packs in the frunk and find the open frunk a great place to sit while putting on our boots. A Ranger car drove...

    Whispbar and/or bike mount

I use the Whisbar with Inno bike mounts. Works real well, however, it does generate significant wind noise. My wife hates it. I also use the Inno Shadow 16 box in winter to haul skis. Generally, plan on about a 10% reduction in range.

    EVmote App

Really appreciate your app. I've been using it for some time and fully support your going to a paid pro version. I would prefer paying using Paypal so am still holding out to see what happens. One minor annoyance is the segmentation of trips. Out of garage = trip 1, stop at mailbox = trip 2...
