Tesla's Supercharger Team was recently laid off. We discuss what this means for the company on today's TMC Podcast streaming live at 1PM PDT. You can watch on X or on YouTube where you can participate in the live chat.
Yeah, I'm mostly concerned with the edge on the door since they do the rocker package up to the lower crease on the door. All other coverage is total panel so no edges to really worry about.
Hmm. I've been told that in many cases PPF hides some of the flaws that correction addresses. I'm aware of some very reputable, high end shops that don't do correction before PPF.
Any issues or concerns with seams getting dirty and showing on a white car? The installer I'm talking to does their rocker job up to the lower crease on the doors. I'm little worried about those those seams causing trouble on a white car over time.
Any updates? I'm considering getting Stealth and this is giving me pause. I don't want to spend $6500 on something that I have to baby and worry about.
Yeah, they said more work and higher material cost. So now I'm just deciding between full or partial Ultimate. Leaning towards partial, but a little worried about how the seams will look on a white car. They go up to the lower door crease with their rocker install, that would be the area of...
Looks great, I love it. I was strongly considering getting it done but the shop I'm talking to charges an extra $1000 for Stealth, and the cost is already too high for me! So I'm probably just going to get a partial Ultimate job done.
Yeah, I've gone back and forth with this myself. Which is the main reason I still haven't pulled the trigger on getting PPF and/or ceramic. The Model 3 isn't really a high end car that demands this level of protection. But, there is the peace of mind aspect. To some people it may be "worth...
What's your opinion of doing partial Xpel ppf (full front and rockers) and then Xpel fusion on a pearl white Model 3? I don't really want to spend the money for full ppf and ceramic. Would full ppf and skip the ceramic be "better"?
Hmm. Interesting. I'm pretty close to pulling the trigger on Xpel PPF full front and rockers, and was going to do the Xpel Fusion on top of it. But now your comments are giving me pause. Would save me a lot of money, that's for sure!
Keyless. But, i still often look for car keys before leaving the house. Old habits die hard. I'm finally getting over looking at gas prices as I drive around wondering if I should stop and fill up.
Happened to me for the first time last night. It was cool and rainy so I assume the conditions had something to do with it. Lasted 5-10 minutes and then self corrected.
I see that one of your cars is white. I've read that Modesta BC-03 is better for lighter color cars, and BC-04 for darker colored cars. But it sounds like you're happy with BC-04 on your white car?
Thanks Doc. Couple questions. Realizing it's still very recent since you did it, would you do it again? How long did your installer suggest the Modesta would last? What did they tell you about maintenance requirements?
Personal opinion, which I'm only sharing because asked:
The car looks best, by far, with the premium 19 or 20 inch wheels.
The car looks "unique" with the Euro caps. I like them. But, plastic caps on a $50,000 car?
The car looks fine but kinda blah with the caps off.
So, if I had the 18's, I'd...
Assuming you're referring to the pro applied ceramic, any of brands like Xpel Fusion Plus or Modesta or most of the other big names could be used for this purpose.
Yeah, I've been considering PPF and/or ceramic for a while now. Most of the shops I've talked to do NOT do correction before PPF, but DO before ceramic. So if you get just PPF, the paint will not be corrected, but if you get PPF and ceramic, it will be.
I'm not brave enough to do a waterless wash on a really dirty car. Way too high a risk of scratching the paint without a pre-rinse. And that's the problem in winter climates: you can't really pre-rinse.
I think you're safe using the do-it-yourself car wash, but unfortunately you're not going to get it fully clean without touching the paint. Just not much choice for those of us with winter climates. You could maybe use the car wash and then use something like ONR after.
Yeah, I'm considering getting Modesta done which is supposed to be the best of the best but it's ridiculously expensive. I was told the maintenance booster would cost me about $50-100/year.
If the job was professionally done I assume most reputable pros would remedy this for their clients, right? And if not, would the vendors (Xpel, Suntek, Llumar, etc.) step in and assist under warranty?
Yup. I would like at least one or two slower speeds. My previous car had 5 intermittent speeds, 2-3 of which were slower than the Model 3's slowest, and 3 regular speeds. I'd think this would be an easy update so I'm surprised it hasn't been done on a car that's now entering it's 3rd year of...
