    Autonomous Car Progress

I highly recommend this article for the video of a self-driving vehicle in India. Very amusing if nothing else. https://spectrum.ieee.org/india-self-driving-car

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

It was a very dramatic slowdown causing me to immediately mash the accelerator. Was more like stopping than slowing. Very obvious freaking out.

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Had a bit of a scary situation the other day. Was driving to the airport using FSDS and had just merged onto the freeway when a motorcycle moved into our lane and started slowing dramatically. The car paid absolutely no attention and I had to break hard to avoid a collision. Still came about 6...

    12.3 FSD Acceleration.

Although I tend to think people complaining about acceleration off the line are nuntso, and my wife as a passenger agrees, I do wish chill-aggressive actually did something for people who want to drive like grandma and leave aggressive for those of us that don’t want to impede traffic. That...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

My 2018 M3 in SoCal recently updated to 12.3.3. Today I set my profile to no fsd and then when I wanted TACC, I found it was on fsd(s). No message other than the email. And my MX up in Oregon is still on fsd 11. Looking forward for another SpaceX launch hopefully visible from here in La Quinta...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Yesterday evening, while driving to LaQuinta from Palm Springs, I had to disengage due to …. … SpaceX! We knew the approximate time of the launch and when we looked to the west, there it was. Fortunately, I was able to pull over and got a good view. Very cool. Was able to get a long iPhone...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

From https://spectrum.ieee.org/trillion-transistor-gpu Training GPT-3, for example, requires the equivalent of more than 5 billion billion operations per second of computation for an entire day (that’s 5,000 petaflops-days), and 3 trillion bytes (3 terabytes) of memory capacity. Recommend...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

After the holiday update and before 12.3, my 2018 m3 did not honor continuous torque and when I got a nag, I had to torque in the reverse direction for a second or so. Try that. With 12.3, no nags with continuous torque.

I blew a tire and rim while driving manually because the deep pothole was black just like a series of filled holes. About a 1000 bucks.

And I think that really is a thing. But was for cryptocurrency if I recall correctly. Which I seldom do.

Wiki Consumer AV - Status Tracking Thread

Hey guys, how about defining acronyms the first time you use them in a post. Even though I spend an hour or more reading this, er, material, I had to look up: SOTA is an acronym for State-Of-The-Art. In the context of Artificial Intelligence
  13. L

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Yeah, I’m not sure if Tesla has code exterior to the end-to-end net, but it seems needed for unusual situations.
  14. L

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

It would, but only after being trained on millions of examples of good drivers in that situation. It is end-to-end, right?

Traffic Aware Cruise Control (TACC) won't be available on FSD v12?

Although I setup a no fsd profile, 12.3 works so well and with a good wife approval factor, I have not needed it. My recent drives have had a destination so I don’t know how well I would feel about my more typical non-destination drives. Also, I think Elon is behind the forced single pull...

Must have been painful. Apologies if I have been ninjaed, I am a few days behind.

    Forced Autopilot Disengagement problem

Be sure to try reversing the torque direction. BTW, under 12.3, I have been able to avoid the nag with constant torque just like previous to the holiday update.

Does anyone actually have FSD v12 yet?

Yesterday, on 12.3, I turned on FSD with minimize lane changes while in the middle of 3 lanes. With no traffic around, I signaled left wanting to change lanes but the car never honored my request. I had to cancel. I also dislike the single pull and use a “no fsd” profile to easily enable cruise...

Traffic Aware Cruise Control (TACC) won't be available on FSD v12?

In anticipation of fsdb 12,3, I created a profile named no fsd, that has fsdb turned off and TACC and autosteer on. I do prefer using TACC and manual steering for most drives around town because FSDb is stressful and also I don’t want to bother entering a destination. Although I have not tried...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Oops, I should’ve mentioned that my m3 is in California. My Mx in Oregon has not gotten the 12 update yet.
  21. L

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Same here. 2018 m3. In preparation, I added a new profile that I named no fsd, so I can use TACC without autosteer.

    Forced Autopilot Disengagement problem

If the nag won’t go away while torquing, try reversing the direction. You may need to alternate directions frequently.
  23. L

Are there any heads up displays that show nags so you don’t have to (unsafely) look down?

As I have reported elsewhere, ever since the holiday update, constant torque no longer works on my 2018 m3. It now requires alternating torque direction. My 2019 mx, however, still works fine. So, if you get nags that won’t go away with even more force, try reversing direction.

    FSD Beta v11.x

Has happened multiple times to me. Each time, even though I override , my wife exclaims “I hate your car.”

FSD Owners - Do any of you prefer leaving it off?

For many years I have driven with autopilot and then FSDb using one hand at 5 o’clock or 7 o’clock to provide continuous torque. Never was bothered by nags. Now, as of the holiday update, I get the "Apply slight turning force to steering wheel" nag even though I am already dong so. I have tried...

NTSB update for Autopilot has me looking for an anti-nag device

Yes, right after posting that, I thought, am I sure I have no cabin camera? Pretty sure no IR illuminators, though.

NTSB update for Autopilot has me looking for an anti-nag device

l’ve posted this elsewhere but: (TLDR: constant torque no longer works, now need periodic direction switching) For many years I have driven with autopilot and then FSDb using one hand at 5 o’clock or 7 o’clock to provide continuous torque. Never was bothered by nags. Now, as of the holiday...

I got a very unfair third strike that I do not understand. Please help.

Here is something I reported in another thread. You might get some useful ideas: For many years I have driven with autopilot and then FSDb using one hand at 5 o’clock or 7 o’clock to provide continuous torque. Never was bothered by nags. Now, as of the holiday update, I get the "Apply slight...

I got my new Autopilot defeat device

There are many different wavelength bands of IR. Near, mid, thermal etc. Thermal does no go through glass or plastic (silicon and germanium are often used as lenses or windows.) The eye tracking IR is most certainly near IR, perhaps around 800 nm.

Tesla recalls 2 million vehicles to limit use of Autopilot

no! How is that going to work on a straight road - there is no turning to resist. The message says "Apply slight turning force to steering wheel". I use one hand and simply never get nags. Have been driving Teslas since 2013. I use my right hand at about 5 o’clock partly resting on my knee in...

    Autopilot reminder every 15 seconds??

No. You need to heed the new updated message I saw recently "Apply slight turning force to steering wheel". I hold with my thumb and forefinger at about 5 o’clock and apply about the weight of my hand. Never use two hands unless one is at the bottom applying no turning force that might cancel...

    Autopilot reminder every 15 seconds??

I use one hand and simply never get nags. Have been driving Teslas since 2013. I use my right hand at about 5 o’clock partly resting on my knee in my 3 (in my X, my knee is too far away.) I simply hook my thumb and forefinger and provide a slight continuous torque. I have never disabled...

Thoughts from a first time FSD Beta User: HW4

Fred Lambert, who used to post here in the early days, had 11.4.7 try to change left into a freeway emergency vehicle crossing area. https://electrek.co/2023/09/01/tesla-fsd-beta-tried-to-kill-me-last-night/

Not sure how to do this link, but here is a very through analysis of Waymo and Cruse safety: https://arstechnica.com/cars/2023/09/are-self-driving-cars-already-safer-than-human-drivers/ That was easy, just paste it. At least using copy-paste on an iPad, may have done more than plain text.

Waymo or Tesla on a random city & route - who would do better?

I seem to recall that the the I-pace is not long for this world. But with my memory, who knows. So, I googled it, and yes, it is being discontinued.

    FSD V12 Elon Demo

In my experience FSDb (14.4) already does this. Previously, it would change speed exactly as it passes the sign. Now it does, maybe, 50 feet ahead of the sign.

    FSD V12 Elon Demo

Good that you folks are describing this as I cannot watch since I am not on X and never will be (no I don’t care if it’s free.)
  45. L

    Waymo

You might have missed my point. The status quo is approximately 40,000 deaths per year in the US. Anything that delays automated driving continues that statistic. No amount of yelling at people to not speed and not drive drunk will have any effect. Forcing autonomous vehicles to drive much...

    Waymo

Assuming you want to limit the rollout of AVs that are safer than human driving. Don‘t you think there may be backlash of people fed up with AVs poking along at 5 or 10 mph under the prevailing conditions? Traffic laws and such are set by humans who assume vehicles are driven by other, perhaps...
