Some people think that 30 minutes is too long to wait for a charge

and that is something that happens, I will not spend 80K dollars on a car I can not use 100% of the time. Other people think the same way, I don't understand why people on this forum get so defensive about that.

Some people think that 30 minutes is too long to wait for a charge

Why are you all so up in arms about topics like this? Some people don't want to stop for 30 minutes every 200 miles on a road trip, and they would be correct in my opinion. That is too long of a wait, even if there were superchargers everywhere I needed them. I get it, you all love the Model...

Selling a Tesla: Compare ICE, Supercharge and Battery Swap Road Trips

Where are you finding battery swap stations in a Dallas to Florida route? I hope you didn't lie to them just to sell a car, they aren't going to find battery swaps in that area of the country in a long time, if not ever.

Negative Camber in the Rear and Expensive Tires

Doesn't having to replace tires at under 10K miles seem counter productive to the whole less maintenance cost that an ICE? Not only are you paying a premium for an electric car, your tires won't eve last 1 year?

Tesla battery swap: Post announcement discussion

I'm all for addressing the reasons people aren't buying electric cars, but let's be real. The reason people aren't buying electric cars isn't that it takes longer to charge than to fill a gas tank, it's because it costs 60K dollars. When we have electric cars that are 30K, then Elon can get...

Tesla battery swap: Post announcement discussion

Q: When you return the battery pack, do you have to pay again for the swap? And next question - how is this technology better than Better Place's? Elon: Yes, by the time you get pack you get your own pack back fully charged, and you pay again for the pack swap. No one has noticed this little...

    Third Row Seats Air-Conditioning

Pretty weird that the best car in the world requires someone to do something like this just to get air conditioning in the back seats.

GenIII, "We really need to find a better name for it"

Not to mention the whole 2 door thing. I imagine a mass adoption car will need 4 doors.

Is anyone only charging for free at a supercharger?

yeah, that's not creepy or anything. I don't think limiting your charge based on where you live fits with the whole free charging thing. Free charging, but wait we see that you live within 50 miles of this charger, so no electricity for you. Just go ahead and charge everyone then, if you are...
  11. M

Is anyone only charging for free at a supercharger?

How exactly are you going to determine if the person using the charger is local or on a trip? Are you going to ask everyone where they live before they start charging? Like it or not, if charging is free you can't do anything to stop anyone with a Model S from charging there.

What my Prius has and Tesla doesn't.

It has range. I love how everyone on this forum acts like an ICE car is so bad. Can buy 2 Prius and enough gas for 10 years for both or a Model S, hmmmm I wonder why some people aren't ready for an electric vehicle yet.
  13. M

    Tesla Pickup Truck

Yes, but like was said earlier, 250 mile range while empty is going to be significantly reduced if loaded or towing. If they get a 250 mile range while fully loaded and towing a mid sized trailer, I'll eat my arm.
  14. M

    Tesla Pickup Truck

I'm just wondering how big the battery would have to be and how much the truck would weigh. Model S is over 4000 pounds with an 85kw battery, they'd need something a lot bigger than that to tow and have any kind of range. Maybe some of those battery improvements will help.
  15. M

    Tesla Pickup Truck

Claiming that a Tesla truck will crush all other half tons is a big task. With a properly configured F150, you can tow up to 11,000 lbs and have a payload capacity of 2000 lbs, and still have a range over 400 miles in one fill up. I just don't see any way for an electric truck to do that. For...

Gen III Range & Pricing Speculation

Yes, but the $30K base price is factoring in the 7500 tax credit, how many people that regularly buy cars 30K and below have enough tax liability to take full advantage of that credit?
  17. M

Gen III Range & Pricing Speculation

I would agree, a car that has sales of around 100K in the US isn't exactly the car for the "masses".
  18. M

20% of all drivers will eventually own a Tesla

2.8 million cars sold by Tesla, yeah I don't think they are going to get to that range for at least 10-15 years if that.
  19. M

Power drain while idle (Vampire Load)

I really think any energy use while parked is ridiculous. My ICE car doesn't use any gas while it is parked.
  20. M

Power drain while idle (Vampire Load)

For a company that is supposedly "green", these loses are really staggering when you think about the numbers. 4+ kW loss per day, that's potentially 1500 kW per year for every Tesla that has currently been sold. With a goal of 20K plus Model S, that's potentially 30 million kW per year for all...

Petition to Overturn Dealership Franchise Laws

and you think the Republicans in the House give a flying crap what the President suggests? After his failure of gun control, he's going to take up interstate commerce? Yeah, don't think so.
  23. M

Petition to Overturn Dealership Franchise Laws

You all DO realize that even setting aside the fact that these are state laws, the President is NOT a king and can not set aside any laws, period. This petition isn't going to do anything, because even if the federal government wanted to take up this issue, Congress is the one that would have...

Electric car predictions for the future

Unless some other manufacturer gets on the EV bandwagon, Tesla is going to be the only dog in the fight. It took the Prius 11 years to reach the 1 million sold mark, so I'd imagine that a higher priced pure EV is going to take longer, especially if another administration gets rid of the tax...
  25. M

Electric car predictions for the future

They would need to get Gen III below 30K to hit that goal, can't really count on people who buy a car at this level having enough tax burden to benefit from the total 7500 tax credit.
  26. M

Electric car predictions for the future

Model S, X, and Gen III 20K each would take over 16 years to reach 1 million. Let's say Tesla is super successful and sell 100K cars total when Gen III comes out, still don't see how they could make 1 million before 2020. Either way, the EV market, while growing, won't be a significant...

Tesla head on collision with a Honda

I don't think it matters either way, because the news reports said that the driver of the Tesla was admitted to the hospital with minor injuries, if something had happened medically to make him swerve over into the other lane, it would have been reported. This driver did not have a heart...

Harris Ranch Superchargers and Supercharging Software Update

The idea of not filling your car up completely when getting fuel is foreign to most people. Having to stop at a certain point and travel to the next filling station is not something that a lot of people are going to want to do, we are used to an ICE car, you fill up the tank and go.

    3G Pricing - Speculation

Large screen aside, why would anyone pay the thousands for NAV then when my 300 dollar stand alone GPS will do the job better and I get lifetime updates included? I don't see the point of having the big screen if you can't use it for anything.

All 4 Tesla superchargers in DE taken by ICE vehicles.

I'd be really careful parking behind an ICE car trying to block them in, you might come back and find your 80K dollar MS dented.
  32. M

All 4 Tesla superchargers in DE taken by ICE vehicles.

You all do know that Tesla does not own these parking spaces and they can not forbid anyone from parking there? Talking about damaging a car doesn't seem like the good will that EV owners want to generate.

Climate Change / Global Warming Discussion

Some conscientious buyers might choose the goods from environmentally friendly countries, but the vast majority of everyone on this planet, not only Americans, shops with their pocketbooks. If it's cheaper, they are going to buy it.

    Big Brother Inside

The whole "if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to worry about" argument gets my goat every time. Climate Change / Global Warming Discussion

All that would do is hurt the American workers with higher priced items. Can't buy Chinese goods because of pollution, our economy would crash overnight. Climate Change / Global Warming Discussion

And how exactly are we going to "act" before it's too late? What can the US government do to change the climate? Answer, nothing. If China/India and emerging markets don't act the same, it won't make a difference. The way I see it is increasing the cost of power for Americans for little or...

NYT article: Stalled on the EV Highway

Having to turn the heat down and drive below the speed limit just to make it to a supercharger, and a 1 hour or more wait, doesn't seem to me to be part of the "best car in the world". This just shows that the Model S is nothing more than an expensive enthusiast car, it is never going to be...

How to rationalize buying a Model S?

True, and shouldn't really need saying. If you are already in the luxury market, then the Model S makes perfect sense and may save you money. If you are just looking for a car to drive that gets good gas mileage for work and the occasional trip, not so much. Hopefully gen 3 will take care of...
  41. M

How to rationalize buying a Model S?

The only rationalization is that you want the car and can afford it. Savings wise, you can buy a new Prius and have enough left for 30 years of fuel at $5/gallon, so the Model S obviously can't compete with a hybrid if your only rationalization is fuel savings.

Has Tesla Solved the Road Trip Problem?

Nothing irrational about wanting your $80K car to be able to travel more than 200 miles in a single day without extending road trips by 2-3 hours just to charge. I would imagine that the majority of people who travel long distances, unlike people on these forums, would not find having to stop...

Yes, but with the Prius there is no worry of running out of battery charge and being stranded without any charging available.

Rated vs Ideal vs Projected and how to use them

I know it's been said before, but Model S needs a battery life remaining display. It'd be a lot better going distances if you could see that you have 25% or so of battery life remaining without having to break out a graphing calculator with these energy charts.

Likelihood of a CHAdeMO adapter for the Model S

I don't know how many TN Tesla owners there are yet, but the middle TN area has a deluge of CHAdeMO thanks to Cracker Barrel. Shame to not be able to plug in while enjoying some good food.

Resolved! Ranger Service for Due Bill Items

It makes sense to charge for something that should be done before the car is even delivered? This isn't something that broke and needs fixing, this is like not putting seats in and charging you for them later. I know there are a ton of Tesla cheerleaders on this forum, but we consistently...

Retractable Door Handles - Is It Practical?

What are people going to do when the door handle motors start wearing out? Of all the things that need replacing on older cars, why make door handles one of them? I know they are cool when they work, but it's an unneeded over complication.
  49. M

Retractable Door Handles - Is It Practical?

all of this talk of bags and blow torches and crawling through the back and everything else for a $80K car is amazing. It looks pretty stupid I'm sure when you have your expensive high tech car and your blow torch trying to get in and somebody else walks up to their low tech car and just pulls...

Large Drop in Charge When Parked in the Cold

It seems to me that the lack of a charge timer is a huge oversight on an EV vehicle. Even on one rushed to production to meet certain quotas and deadlines.
