Yeah, weirdest supercharger situation I have seen in 5 years.
I can only think of 2 possibilities.
An infrastructure upgrade in prep for a real V4 site.
Or, the original install was flawed in some way.
Yeah, with ZERO activity right now and it’s already mid-April, I am concerned that 0 new superchargers in MN is even a possibility. :(
Hopefully things will ramp up soon, but even if a half-dozen permits show up this summer, those sites may not get operational before next winter.
I charged at Gallup and Farmington NM on Tuesday. After reading comments here, I was a little concerned about Eclipse traffic coming home from the Midwest region. But, both sites were quiet and reliable!
Yeah, I have been advocating for Manitou Springs for 4 years now. (Or even Woodland Park).
I have to use the 62kW ChargePoints in Manitou later this week. Crossing my fingers that it is not a fail and I am forced to drive downtown!
CO and AZ are going like gangbusters recently. 8 active permits in CO, but AZ takes the cake with 12! (Assuming I got my counts right; and completely ignoring activity in CA, of course.)
Some other states are just being ignored entirely, like MN (with 0).
Ouch. Down chargers, slow chargers, a line, and no other supercharger sites within dozens of miles. :(
But, 3 chargers down on a V2 site? Seems weird; almost impossible unless there was a damaged charger handle; had to actually be 2 or 4 (despite the evidence in the photo). :)
Thanks. But, the rules of the game are: You have to get out and get a picture while reaching over the fence, or through the cracks! :)
(We are hoping to see a bunch of conduit, or some Tesla equipment, etc.)
Cool! Thanks for posting the data.
I had guestimated 7 for 2024, but now that I see this, I am revising my estimate down to 6. Just to be annoying. :)
(Really hoping that I am wrong, though.)
Fair enough…
But, why are you “disappointed”? This seems like a good logical location choice. What is wrong with this location? Or, said differently, what areas in CS would be a better choices?
Empirical evidence…
1. Nothing planned on Tesla’s Find Us page.
2. No permits active, almost 3 months in to 2024. (as far as supercharge.info knows).
3. No obvious NEVI related data for any specific sites.
4. Expansion occurring at a “steady pace” in a lot of other areas.
So, MN just isn’t...
I am not sure we are even going to 7 new sites this year. :(
(Meanwhile, AZ already opened 1 new site this year, and has 12!!! permits active.)
Honestly I would be OK with 3-4 new MN sites if we could get northern WI and west-side UP MI opened up to Teslas!
Disagree…
For a long time only the north side of the Springs was getting any supercharger attention. (Especially while Denver was seeing sites open by the dozen). It was really frustrating to always have to drive north (and always in thick traffic) to use the downtown parking ramp location...
FINALLY!
I have been suggesting for years that the Stratmoor area would be a great location for a supercharger. (One was really needed south of US-24, but not too far off of I-25.)
Now I can stop whining about this!
Based on the other info posted on X, it appears that Tesla might build another supercharger site in downtown Las Vegas in 2024. Then, an “outage” in 2025 to upgrade the current V2 Comfort Inn site wouldn’t really matter that much.
I am not even sure how that current Comfort Inn motel stays in...
Charged here in Glendale (Northern Ave), just before Noon. Only 1 other Tesla there, and it was gone about 5 minutes later. No non-Teslas were there. 16 stalls virtually unused midday! That is SO different than Tempe and Mesa locations where all stalls are often full midday on a weekday, and a...
Charged here on a Wednesday midday. Site was less than half full. 4 stalls were coned off; not sure why. 1A, 1C, 1D, and 2A were coned off. 1B was in use. Makes no sense. This site does have the plastic guards that force users to select the correct cable pylon.
Hmmm. The parking lots were all really full in the Google Maps picture; seems like ICEing could be a problem. But, the other picture doesn’t show it too bad. I would agree that the “back road” area doesn’t seem likely. Tesla must be planning to use the “island” area with the current landscaping.
Stopped by the Queen Creek Olive Mill today. No obvious construction (or ground marking) activity. I did talk to an employee who confirmed that a Tesla Supercharger will be soon be built on-site. I “suggested” probably this summer, but the employee thought it would be sooner than that.
I did...
Tesla’s web site does indeed indicate an upgrade from Urban to V3! We need someone to swing by and snap some pics to confirm exactly what Tesla did. (Maybe they just added 4 V3 stalls to the existing Urbans?)
Limon CO and Trinidad CO have both added V3 stalls to their older V2s. And Merrillville...
Plenty of CCS options on this route so you wouldn’t need to spend so much time doing a deep charge, especially at a place like Farmington. And have extra charging options for exploring etc. I did the conversion on my 2019 3 with the whole western CO area in mind!
Well, the “started next” was my phrasing. The Tesla guy just said the Tempe / Elliot location was next. It was really loud there, so I probably did not catch the exact wording. And I never really expected a “permit” site in such a busy area would be that far along with none of us noticing!
Tesla has been adding superchargers plus ChargePoint L2s at some Targets in MN. The L2s have 2 hours free charging. Kind of a great combination for locals, road trippers, and ride-share drivers.
That is interesting about Las Vegas NM, good to know… We generally don’t like that area because there ain’t much there and the supercharger sucks. :) The Trinidad supercharger always kind of sucks too; the gas station and the Wendy’s are always filthy. The Pueblo supercharger helps out the...
Based on the site plan, the supercharger will be along the curved curb at the very left edge of your photo.
Yeah, not really a great location for amenities (or bathrooms). There is a PF Changs back across the parking lot; everything else is a walk… :(
Nice. (I don’t expect to get by that area again in the next few months.) The location pin on supercharger.info is exactly correct. Translate that to Google Maps and you can’t miss it.
I did check out the I-17 permit location earlier this week. And I am planning to check out some of the SE valley locations next week, and hopefully the CyberTruck at Mesa SC! (It would be odd that Tesla is ONLY working on 1 supercharger in a given region.)
If you are doing the Midwest <-> AZ drive, and you have a little extra time, and you want a WAY more interesting drive, I always go through NE or KS, then CO Springs and over the Rockies now that the Tesla charging infrastructure has improved so much. Lots of cool things to see and do such as...
Wow, this site is very far along. I can’t believe no one had posted about it yet. I guess I should have asked the Tesla techs which site is #2 and #3 too… :)
Definitely needs a construction cone!
@corywright @Chuq @Big Earl @Guacahummus
Tesla supercharger technicians were on-site here today. They were working on the cabinets, but I couldn’t tell if this was a repair or simple maintenance, but a few stalls were coned off. I had no trouble charging though.
I talked with a couple Tesla supercharger technicians today and asked them which of Phoenix’s many open permit sites will be started on next. One of them said that this Tempe site will likely be started next.
I think MN needs to be more proactive; both the state and local communities and businesses.
In AZ and CO, there are DCFC chargers popping up all over the place. Granted these are currently CCS, but eventually some of them will be NACS. This drives better EV adoption, and probably more Tesla...
Ugh. Yet another supercharger right by all of the other superchargers. :( (That will be 5 within about a 3 mile radius.)
Tesla has to be doing this just to mock the far SE valley! :) Can we FINALLY get something south of the 202? (Yeah, I know, the Queen Creek Olive Mill will eventually get...
I posted this in one of the other MN threads…
MN currently has no new superchargers planned (based on available public info).
I hope MN will get 7+ new superchargers in 2024, but now that MN has a pretty good geographic distribution of superchargers, I am just not seeing Tesla thinking that MN...
Wow, that seems excessive on their part…
You are simply replacing one certified Tesla part with another Tesla certified part. No third party product is involved in your case. Plus, the ECU is not even “directly” part of the High Voltage wiring. And, no reconfiguration by Tesla is needed; the car...
