    Cyber owl is from Bladerunner

Syd Mead, the artistic director of the Blade Runner movie who did all the production and set design, has said that he loves the truck and that he is very proud that Musk has cited him and his Blade Runner style as an inspiration for the vehicle.

    OMG that truck is fugly!

I love that Cybertruck design. It has instantly made all other pick up trucks look dated and stale.

    OMG that truck is fugly!

IIRC it was in a Penthouse magazine from the late 70s. I saw an article about that design and the similarity to the Cybertruck. It was on jalopnik com I think. The guy who designed that concept sent an original issue of the magazine to the jalopnik writer.

Tesla Cybertruck Orders Hit 146K in Two Days

I dont think we are going to see many order cancellations and deposit refunds. You either really hate this truck (and would never put down a deposit) or you really love it. And this time people KNOW there will be no tax credit unlike with the Model 3 where it ran out in the middle of productiokn.

Will you switch from AWD to AWD-P?

Do we already know what the actual difference between the normal AWD and the AWD-P will be? I know the P will get motors that have been hand picked off the production line, but assuming those have slightly better efficiency and everything else is the same as standard AWD the power gain would be...

Rumored 130 kWh Model S in light of Roadster announcement

Not sure where exactly I read it, but I do seem to recall some battery expert (from Tesla?) saying that charging higher is always preferable to draining lower. Especially if you do not let the fully charged battery sit for long periods after charging I guess.

Will eVTOLs take over the commercial small-helicopter market?

Companies may attempt to bring those things to market ... but when people actually experience the reality (constant annoying noise, and the occasional evtol falling out of the sky onto their heads or houses) they will raise such a legal shitstorm those things won't be any more widespread than...

[POLL] Will base model M3 beat the Chevy Bolt's 238 mile EPA range?

Once they have a grip on production they ought to offer an intermediate battery, with 265-270 miles, for $4500 more. That'd be perfect.

Loving the overheat protection this summer!

I know what you're talking about ... ca 20 years ago I spent four weeks on vacation in the US, in California, Utah and Arizona. My family and I had rented a pitch black Chrysler Neon. Whenever we opened the doors of that thing after it had been sitting ina parking lot for a few hours it was like...

    Ferris Bueller Sequel

Well, I guess from now on he will NEVER valet his treasured cars again. Looking at the picture it seems like the airbags went off. Maybe the two little punks got a bit of tinnitus as a lifelong reminder not to crash other people's cars out of their "prank".

    100D is here

I wish Tesla would offer a brushed aluminium interior along with the wood and the black lacquer. It would cost them only pennies as they have already got the stamping presses and the aluminium sheets for the other parts of the car. I bet it could be stamped out from the same sheets, wherever...

    P85 modded to be a P85 w/Ludicrous

On a side note, you just know that somewhere, in some office on on some plane, Elon Musk is reading this thread, unable to decide whether to smile or shake his head.

    P85 modded to be a P85 w/Ludicrous

Next generation 2170 cell battery packs

I just hope they can maintain the 100kwh and make the battery MUCH lighter instead - that would also boost range considerably over the range of the current 100kwh battery, and it would do the car and its driving dynamics a world of good. Not to mention the car could be lot cheaper, too. Or allow...

    Electric Motorcycles

ZERO is doing a great job with regards to electric motorcycles, but I can't think of a reason why they still have no cruiser in their model line-up. Cruisers are like 90% of the motorcycle market in the US and non-faired standards are just a tiny fraction of the market. A cruiser type bike is...

    Random Bolt Sightings

Oh, I dunno. A hatchback is pretty darn practical. I am not even sure if the Model III could accommodate my large R/C airplanes, which even my Fiat Panda can. I can put a solid one-piece 2m/7 foot wing in that car without any problems. I just wish Tesla would offer a station wagon version of the...

Lightning GT... Anyone heard of this one?

Oh god, I had almost forgotten that thing! Reading about the Lightning GT car started my fascination with electric vehicles. I had never thought it possible to do what the builders claimed they were going to do with electric power. When I did further research on EVs I even came across a...

BMW Shifting Focus of I Brand

Not a good decision by BMW, IMHO. If they had built a sleek, stylish carbon fiber runabout along the lines of the Z4, two seats, 4WD, powered by dual i3 motors and at least a 50kwh battery I am sure they would have found customers. They could have kept a horse in tha race that way. And it...

Good grief, racking up miles on 70D at rate of 40,000 per year - yikes

The battery electrolyte becomes unstable and suffers accelerated aging at the very top and at the very bottom of the charge states. Optimum stability (e.g. for long-term storage) is around 40-50% charge. If you do not need all the range there is no need to charge to 90%. It is better to use the...

    Lillium - VTOL all-electric plane

I'm not expecting much, performancewise. Small ducted fans are notoriously inefficient, especially at low speeds like lifting off and landing. There is a reason a helicopter usually has just one giant rotor. Expect a flight time measured in minutes at 250mph, not hours. With the wings that far...

She took dad's car for a spin - literally

An old and tired myth. I have driven a Fiat Panda with 34hp and a Lancia Y10 with 45 hp for many years (many thousands of kilometers on the German Autobahn) and I am still driving a Panda with 55hp. I have never had a bad situation that was attributable to lack of horsepower, only to lack of...

Slipping Delivery Dates for Model S

That is not necessarily true. You don't know where the reserve is - if it all at the "lower" end of the discharge state (which makes a great deal of sense), charging your "fake" 70kwh battery to 100% all the time will be just as damaging as charging your "real" 70kwh to that SOC all the time.

    Service backog, especially in CA....

[Speculation] 120kWh Model S links on German Tesla site?

Pretty sure those 120kwh would be achievable even today ... by using large format pouch cells instead of 18650s. But those come with their own set of issues, of course.

    2016 Model S Refresh Mega-thread

A camera that far out would enable you to see your right front tire when pulling up to the curb so you won't scuff your rim ... I doubt it is meant for that, though.

    I can't imagine - What will part 2 bring?!

That will be great fun when you have a driver with arachnophobia and a spider starts rapelling into his lap from behind the sun visor while he is doing 80mph on a crowded 8-lane Interstate.

Mary Barra, what is going through your mind right now?

I've been wondering about that, too. I have seen IC engine compartments that were not as full, and also a lot neater.

    Tesla moments

It's pretty amazing to think that she may very well never drive an ICE vehicle in her whole life. Even some kids who are a good deal older may not ever do that, just like most drivers today don't know how to drive a stick-shifter car. A true paradigm shift.

Radio Flyer makes a Tesla Model S for kids

Just aimlessly driving around on a field of concrete does indeed get boring fairly quickly. It is the same with me when I drive my RC cars. Radio Flyer makes a Tesla Model S for kids

I also thought the price was actually on the affordable side. Working head lights, swappable and externally chargeable LiIon batteries, an on-board sound system, pretty good quality as far as the vid shows ... 500 bucks is not too much. My 1/8th scale electric RC cars cost that and more, and...

Chevy Bolt - 200 mile range for $30k base price (after incentive)

Do we know if the Bolt will be front wheel drive or rear wheel drive? I don't think I have ever heard anything about that. With an electric motor being as small as it is, there is no reason to prefer FWD over RWD for reasons of saved weight, cost or space as is the case with an IC engine.
