Winter driving advice, winter tire choices, etc.

Don’t know what part of the country you live in but perhaps with an AWD car you don’t need winter/snow tires? I have a RWD Model S so I pop on winter tires each year.

Winter driving advice, winter tire choices, etc.

While I have a RWD Tesla, I would agree that for an AWD in combo with the even weight distribution, you are good to go with “all season” tires!

Winter driving advice, winter tire choices, etc.

I have no problem swapping my tires twice a year for my 2012 Model S (RWD)

The 80% up to 90% is good advice! Thanks!

Winter driving advice, winter tire choices, etc.

If you have a RWD car, I highly recommend getting winter tires. I drive a 2012 Model S RWD and after almost running out of charge years ago while driving in the snow (major slippage!!!) I have used winter tires (in the winter) ever since. Not sure about AWD. All these other winter driving...

Why do BMW drivers who encounter Teslas almost always embarass themselves?

A year and a half ago (when I first got my car) and M5 came zooming up alongside me. He was trying to have a conversation while we were driving 60 mph (basically how do I like the Tesla, etc.). Not sure if he wanted to race (my wife and child were in the car so that was not going to happen). The...

    Wow! Temperature Really Does Matter!

A more effective way to "preheat" the battery pack in cold weather is to charge the battery. If you normally use "Standard" charging mode, switch to "Max Range" first thing in the morning (at a decreased amperage is fine as well) for about 10-20 minutes and that should do the trick.

Meeting other Model S owners on the road - do you wave?

Finally saw another MS the other day; just beeped my horn and waved as I was passing him as I was getting off my exit.

    Active Air vs. Standard Suspension

I have the active air suspension since 1.) my son's preschool has a short but ridiculously steep driveway so I use it daily and 2.) I wanted the car sooner (3 and 1/2 year wait was enough). I have been very happy with it. I can't compare it to standard suspension however. I would think that...

Water condensation in tail light trim?

Same problem from day 1 (though my delivery specialist pointed it out and said it would be fixed at some point). That was 3 months ago (though the lights still work fine as far as I know).

I've experienced the skipping or stuttering problem as well with my iPhone connected via Bluetooth.

Good experience at Rockville Service Center

Does anyone know if the Rockville service center has a HPWC that customers could use? My brother-in-law lives in Rockville which is 320 miles from my home (and a 120V outlet is the best he has to offer).

Things you may not have discovered about your Model S?!

Thanks for this post. Very useful. Also would recommend watching the 27 minute video about the Model S on the Tesla website. I've had the car for 3 months but learned some new tricks after watching it (though it is overall not as informative as the above posts)!

Love the car, customer service leaves something to be desired

I think Tesla customer service has been great (particular the "Ranger" service). Mat from Tesla drove 3 hours plus (one way) to our vacation home with a new UMC since mine had died; otherwise I would have been stranded 300+ miles away from home. Perhaps the Ranger customer service is better......

The Model S Separation Anxiety Thread

    Broken Glove Compartment

Anyone else have a glove compartment door that is broken? Mine will not stay closed for about a month now; I do not see anything that is broken off or missing so I am not sure what to do (other than stuff it so nothing falls out which seems to be working).

    Front License Plate Solutions

Grisnjam: I like it! I'll probably do that (registration finally arrived about 8 weeks after getting my car)! Looks like the plate should not interfer too much with air flow.

    Model S: Clever Vanity Plates

Looks good! I am trying to figure out how to put on my license plate (PLUG IN) now that my registration has finally arrived but I do not see bolts or screws that I can unfasten. Can anyone help?? Thanks!

Coated windshield impacting door openers and EZpass

People may know this already, but given the delay in getting our license plates (6 weeks now for me) it is worth mentioning that EZ pass cannot read your EZ Pass tag unless you actually have a license plate (takes a picture of your license plate and scans your tag at the same time). When I went...

Chargepoint help! What is the fastest charging option?

I've charged at 30A charger twice and 18 miles/hour is the best I got. Though when it was 20 degrees F, I got only 10-12 mph. BTW, I asked ChargePoint sometime ago about increasing the amperage of their chargers and they did not seem interested. I guess once the Superchargers are covering the...

Coated windshield impacting door openers and EZpass

EZ Pass? I was just looking at the EZ Pass webpage in order to change the make/model of my car. And guess what? No Tesla!?!? There is the option of "Other" which seems really lame. Anyone else find Tesla as an option?

Hey Mike. I'm in CT too. Are you transferring plates or getting new ones? I am doing the former and still waiting (since Dec. 30).

    Winter Driving Experiences

Thanks for the tip Doug_G. Warming (charging) the battery prior to driving makes a BIG difference in cold weather (with regards to regen and car is less sluggish). I charge overnight in Standard Mode but in the morning switch to Max at only 5A for about 10-20 minutes and that seems to work too.

Further (beyond the UI) way to adjust the Model S Suspension to make it stiffer?

I have 19" tires and the ride is LESS smooth than my Get Amped test drive with 21" tires. Different suspension???
  31. C

Suspension mellows with age? (Ride seems smoother after 2100 miles of driving)

Thanks for the post Blurry_Eyed. I hope you are right! Took delivery Dec 30 and the lack of a smooth ride (as compared with Get Amped test drive) is the ONLY thing that has disappointed me about this amazing car.

    Winter Driving Experiences

Had no regen yesterday morning ("Regen Disabled" notice on console) at 17 degrees F. So today (13 degrees F) charged the car a little for about 20 minutes before leaving for work and regen works fine! Car also seemed less sluggish compared with yesterday. FYI I park the car overnight outside in...

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

Model S Delivery Dates and Sequencing

Who knows. Mine is a non-performance 85kWh with 19 " wheels and I was told by Telsa (with my initiating contact) that it should be the "end of the year."

Model S Delivery Dates and Sequencing

Does anyone know if Performance 85kWh cars are being delivered before non-Performance (regardless of reservation number)? That what it seems like to me!

    Twin Chargers: Why?

    Twin Chargers: Why?

I ordered the Twin Chargers due to the fact that I am hopeful that there will be some chargers on the road that are more than 30-40A. I also realized (after I had configured my car) that charging with a High Power Wall Connector at a Tesla service station (or retail store) could be an option...

How do we recharge on road trips prior to 2015?

Seems like prior to 2015 (nationwide implementation of Tesla Supercharging system), rapid charging will be hard to find on the east coast (or anywhere outside of California). I contacted ChargePoint (that seems to be everywhere) and asked them if they currently have or plan to have any charging...

Winter wheels/tires packages for Model S

I agree with all that you said. However, there is NO car on the road with such even weight distribution and low center of gravity. All other cars (rear-wheel drive or otherwise) have most of their weight distributed mainly in the front due to their engines. How can we possibly say how the Model...

Winter wheels/tires packages for Model S

Any thoughts on the Model S's relatively new technology and the fact that this rear-wheel drive car has an unusually low center of gravity due to the battery pack? I doubt we know how well this car will handle in the snow until there are some more real-world experiences. So perhaps 19"...
