There's no way they will get 20k confirmed orders until people have had a chance to see the car in person. They might have 5k confirmed orders now, but I would estimate that is on the high side.

Is Model X really going to happen? Or will it break Tesla Motors?

If all you care about is a BEV, then you are correct people will wait for the X. I value the BEV aspect of the Tesla, but put much more value on driving dynamics/technology/comfort/utility. There are many choices for people like me.

Not taking orders for the X does not make any sense. If people ONLY want a Tesla, sure they'll buy the S. But if someone is cross shopping the X against the luxury CUV segment, then it might be better to take orders from those would be Cayenne, GLS, XC90, Q7 customers. Besides, someone might...

Is Model X really going to happen? Or will it break Tesla Motors?

Well, I don't think it's helping Tesla that they can't deliver a car that has been launched for almost 3 months. As for what the ultimate affect it will have on Tesla, well that will most likely be seen as we approach the end of 2016 to see if Tesla is close to the 80k deliveries that they will...

    70D deliveries starting H2/16

Tesla revised 2015 delivery estimates down numerous times, I don't see how they can get by with doing it again in 2016 before the market loses faith in them completely. They need to deliver about 30k Xs in 2016, and if they are only delivering P90Ds in the first half, that's a tall order. Most...

New to TMC, just reserved X, quick question on order process/timeline

You are essentially correct, many people feel the same way you do. There is a 7 page thread on it in the order/delivery sub-form : http://www.teslamotorsclub.com/showthread.php/57984-70D-deliveries-starting-H2-16

    70D deliveries starting H2/16

Well, either they will deliver a P90D to someone who reserves today, or they will deliver way less model Xs than expected in 2016, or they will deliver 90D earlier than they communicated (which would be the first time in history Tesla has exceeded new model delivery expectations). To your main...

    70D deliveries starting H2/16

Selling higher margin goods early in the life cycle is perfectly acceptable to me, completely botching customer expectations and lacking any ability to communicate effectively with your customers is completely unacceptable. To say they are acting this way to ensure their survival is laughable.

And a person who puts down a deposit now could get a car before you. At the end of the day, for your 3 year interest free loan you get to watch 5-10k people take delivery before you, many of which reserved after you. When Tesla publicly committed to delivering the X in 3Q 2015, as P4000 holder...

    70D deliveries starting H2/16

I can promise you as someone who has purchased Porsche and Audi vehicles in the past, there is no way they would have handled communication of what amounts to a 3 yr delay like this. Of course Tesla is a new company, but at some point you have to be realistic. When you ORDER a new model year...

There are no shareholders without customers. There are no employees without customers.

    70D deliveries starting H2/16

Oh, that makes everyone feel so much better...... I'm sure pretty much all of us could pull out the screenshots of the various dates we've been told the X would launch Tesla didn't come close to. Your point, while technically valid, completely misses the mark when it comes to a product that had...

    70D deliveries starting H2/16

So, what we should see coming is Tesla beating delivery expectations for the first time ever? Not sure I understand that logic.

    70D deliveries starting H2/16

Why? Were all the non-sig Model S performance models for the first 9 months after launch?

    70D deliveries starting H2/16

Well, that would be a foolish investment based on Tesla's delivery track record to date, and the fact that you assumed they would be able to sell 15k P90s at about $130k a car. This is more than MB AMG/BMW X5 M/Porsche Cayenne Turbo combined sell in a year and you think Tesla is going to double...
