Strategies for Powerwalls and Utility Demand Plans

We're on E-15 with the averaging. I actually started on the E27 because in theory the cheaper demand charges. However, since we have PWs I'm effectively zeroing out all demand during all peak periods so it really doesn't matter which plan/rates I use since the off-peak rates are all the same...

Strategies for Powerwalls and Utility Demand Plans

I'm in Queen Creek (phx metro area) with SRP and the demand management in the Tesla app has worked fine and is a relief to finally be able to just configure it there instead of using third part apps to try and make it all work. It does seem like Tesla is still tweaking how things work...

Moving a Powerwall to a new home

Thanks for posting this, we're looking at selling our house with four PWs... and I was curious about this as I don't think most buyers will fully value or understand the PWs. After 3 years of use (on track to pay off the original full costs of both our PV and PW systems after just under 5...

Tesla App Utility plan configuration: Multiple Peaks, Buy/Sell Behavior, etc

Yeah, I edited my response also, to mention a reset button on the gateway that support had me use one time. Also possibly there is a current sensor placed incorrectly if there is no indication of actual grid usage like what you are seeing. Hopefully their support might be able to see that on...

Tesla App Utility plan configuration: Multiple Peaks, Buy/Sell Behavior, etc

This first snapshot is a real time view of your energy flows, thus the moving green bars. This first view does not try to indicate any history of your usage or power flows., i.e. whether not earlier in the day you drew power from the grid. So while at the moment you took the snapshot you were...

Tesla App Utility plan configuration: Multiple Peaks, Buy/Sell Behavior, etc

Agreed. I'm a program/project manager in my day job, and I had every number and contact, called people daily, multiple time daily directly, and would be hesitant to do anything with Tesla on the solar side again as far as only adding Solar. I have to admit, we have a Model Y and a Model 3, and...

Tesla App Utility plan configuration: Multiple Peaks, Buy/Sell Behavior, etc

Glad to hear it's finally working for you. Tesla definitely has a blackhole service/support situation when "anything" goes wrong during initial systems startup. I had a fairly simple straight forward PV inverter failure after only a few days of initial operation, and it took a couple months to...

Tesla App Utility plan configuration: Multiple Peaks, Buy/Sell Behavior, etc

I think your setup should work but you might need to make sure you are using a "Peak" period from pre-sunrise to post-sunset (i.e. during your entire longest day of the year PV generation window). tweak your buy and sell values for that peak period. Try setting the TBC Peak Period cost values...

Tesla App Utility plan configuration: Multiple Peaks, Buy/Sell Behavior, etc

We would need to see your configurations and energy usage charts to provide any useful help. If you attach them like slazinger_7 did showing your configurations and buy/sell costs, and also the 4 Energy usage charts with the Overlap toggle turned on (round chart symbol next to the "Day" - top...

Tesla App Utility plan configuration: Multiple Peaks, Buy/Sell Behavior, etc

It does seem like it should work as configured. Even though this shouldn't be necessary, one thing to try is setting your offpeak to "super offpeak" (will show as blue) and also enter your buy costs as normal, but ZERO your SELL costs for that super off-peak period (0.0). Also, setting your...

Tesla App Utility plan configuration: Multiple Peaks, Buy/Sell Behavior, etc

If SRP shows 0kw, then your bill should reflect 0 for peak demand charges. SRP averages power draw over 30 minute periods which is also what most utilities do, I believe. As an example, a 1kW blip for one 5 minute period in the Tesla app, with all other 5 minute segments showing 0kw usage, on...

Tesla App Utility plan configuration: Multiple Peaks, Buy/Sell Behavior, etc

We probably need a little more information. Maybe post your configuration settings, and a snapshot of flows that show what you're talking about - that is if the configuration has been in place for a couple days without edits. It can take a few days for the behavior to settle in as the system is...

Tesla App Utility plan configuration: Multiple Peaks, Buy/Sell Behavior, etc

Okay, good to hear you have it working the way you need. The zero buy and/or sell values do seem to be the primary controlling factor that seems to change behavior across the various peak and off-peak types.

Tesla App Utility plan configuration: Multiple Peaks, Buy/Sell Behavior, etc

Yup. I agree there should be simple controls to verbosely be able to dictate the exact flows, when we want. So instead, we have to play with the configs to get what we want. I've given up complaining about it (never seen that work anywhere on these forums) and simply try to work around the...

Tesla App Utility plan configuration: Multiple Peaks, Buy/Sell Behavior, etc

I've tested this in many different ways and ensuring I have a zero (0.00) sell value stops the sending of solar back to the grid unless the PW is at 100% SOC. It basically tells the Powerwall there is no value in sending power to the grid. I've also tried it with 0.01 and it started sending...
