Who shouldn't buy a Tesla (or an MS)

First, you should definitely get one. You'll love it. However, given you live in a rural and snowy area, I'd make sure you can get 240v charging at home. In my opinion, it dramatically improves the ownership experience vs charging on 110v or going to a Supercharger.

    19" Gemini vs 20" Induction

Thanks for this research! I hadn't found the tire models previously. May I ask, what's leading to the 255/40 to 245/45 suspicion? It's a fairly large jump in sidewall size from about 102mm up to 110mm. thanks!

Shipping my Model Y to Europe - Lots of questions and concerns!

I would discourage sending your car to a market in which it wasn’t intended. On top of the charging concerns, there are different specs for lighting, reflectors, labels and instrumentation in EU vs US. Right now, we have no idea how much unique content exists for the EU Model Y vs US Model Y...

Life without a home 240V charger

Congrats on your new car! For me, charging at home is one of the real game changers of owning an electric car. It is SOOO nice to just come home, plug in and not worry about coordinating my schedule, visiting a Supercharger or going out of my way. At the very least, I'd inquire with an...

Reason for range discrepancy between real world and EPA?

One thing to consider is that tires generally have much higher rolling resistance for the first 1000 miles. I learned this the hard way buying new tires for a long drive I was making. Turns out, brand new tires will have significantly worse range for the first 1000 miles, after which time they...

Roadster carbon fiber door sills back in stock?

    Count me in as well!

    new owner here

Congrats! Looks great. VIN 407 in California says hello! Regarding VINs, sequencing for US and EU both started counting at 1, but earlier digits in the VIN define the car's market (US, EU, RHD, etc.) Sounds like the service center was just typing the last 5 or 6 digits, which is what they do...

Tesla gave me a loaner P85D, now I hate my 75D

I agree with @whitex. It'll pass. We also have a 75D and a P85D with the Luda upgrade and while it's nice to push the P85D, I do it so rarely, the cars feel pretty similar most of the time.

Canceled my day 1 Model 3 reservation... and bought an S!!

Congrats on your new Model S! When you have time, I strongly encourage you look for an alternate charging solution. 110v seems workable at first but it will become a nuisance when you realize how much you enjoy driving the car, not to mention the obvious local Supercharger usage discussion...

    Charging Priorities

Check out the Supercharging FAQ page here: Supercharging It answers this question directly, and has lots of other helpful info. "How can I maximize power and reduce charge time at a Supercharger? Each charge post is labeled with a number and letter, either A or B (e.g. 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B). When...

New owner looking for good advice

I'm still weary of the heat created when DC charging with the CHAdeMO retrofit. Has anyone seen what sort of temperatures the battery reaches when DC charging? The Roadster's cooling system (and the cells themselves) were never intended to support DC fast charging.

New owner looking for good advice

First, congrats on the Roadster!! I hope you love it as much as the rest of us. Mine has 72K miles and going strong. The advice given thus far is terrific, so I'll add just a few random tidbits. Be especially careful when using the CAN adapters. The charge port inlet is bonded to the...

    Model S has No Soul!

Pretty interesting thread. As a lifelong self-identified "car guy" (who does my own oil changes in the driveway), I've also heard the same "no soul" comments from fellow car enthusiasts. To me, a vehicle's "soul" is akin to a characterization of a vehicles attributes: Is the car loud and...

Adapter for US Tesla S in Europe

Forgive me if you have already done the research, but the process of importing a vehicle from one market to another can be quite complex and sometimes costly. For 6 months of use, it might be less expensive to rent a Model S in Europe, than import your own. To your specific question, I'm not...

Is Battery Cooling activated while driving if AC isn't on?

This is somewhat old, but Tesla technicians have a tool through which they can view the entire cooling system in Model S/X via the touchscreen. It's pretty awesome. As you can see, the car has ability to route coolant from the radiator, refrigerant from the AC system and even waste heat from...
