Milestones compared to other car startups

(Copied from the Tesla blogs):

Ryan Lamansky / Kardax wrote:
  • If Tesla starts production, they should pass Tucker quickly–only 51 cars were made. Tucker is a pretty easy target for any automotive startup
  • In the first year of Roadster production, Tesla would build more cars than the entire world fleet of hydrogen fuel cell prototypes.
  • Within 2 or 3 years of Roadster production, Tesla will probably build more cars than all of the big automakers did in the California ZEV mandate glory days.
  • Passing De Lorean will take some work, though… roughly 9000 DMC-12s were made. Tesla can get there eventually just selling Roadsters, but it’ll probably be the future sedan model that accomplishes this milestone.

From tomsax' Seattle town hall notes:
Quote:
Signature #38 has entered production and they have delivered into the first few Signature 100 owners. The production rate is about ten per week. They expect to step that up to twenty per week by the end of this year.
Does "Signature #38" mean 38 beyond the Founders 27 (meaning production car 38 + 17 = 65). And "entering production" means 6ish weeks from delivery? This would mean we should be very close to surpassing the Tucker 51 cars today. Perhaps in another two or three weeks?

According to this:

19 Electric Car Players Pitch San Francisco Earth2Tech

San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom gets #51 (The "Tucker" number) in a few weeks:

Quote:
And where is the mayor’s own electric car, Tesla Roadster No. 51? “I just got a call,” he told us. “It’s coming in a few weeks.”

Here's a more complete list of possible milestones from another thread:

Vector: 35 cars
Tucker: 51 cars
Corbin: 300 sparrows
RAV4 EV: 600 cars
EV1: 1171 cars
De Lorean: 9000 cars
Edsel: 120000 cars
Hudson: 300000 cars in one year

I think "TUCKER" would be a good vanity plate for P-51 :)

Tesla VS X

With the Tesla Roadster hitting 100 cars delivered it might be nice to note the count of unique cars so we can mark Tesla Milestones.

I looked around for a list car startups and production volumes.

Until a list appears we know.

Tucker 51 cars

Delorean 9000

Amphibicar 4000

(more stolen posts)
Lamborghini was doing between 2,000 to 3,000 annually before this recession.

Automobili Lamborghini Anounces Another Record Year
2,087 sold in 2006.
But they also have 100 dealers selling the cars worldwide.

According to this article, they are up to 2,400 worldwide in early 2008.

Maserati is doing about 7,000 cars per year.
This recent article also says that Lamborghini is down 15% and Bentley is down 30%.

Maserati is too Sexy (and Smart) for the Recession | Autopia from Wired.com

It looks like Ferrari is around 6,000 to 7,000 with 200+ dealerships.

This page says Ferrari normally sells 600 or cars a month in boom time but with the 2008 end of year recession, that number was down to 92 cars sold worldwide in November.

This article says
Quote:
According to the report, a Dodge spokesperson said the brand makes only 1,500 Vipers per year with a starting price of $84,460.
