Not a start-up per se, but apparently 5 FCX Clarities sold: Toyota, Honda hybrid sales drop in 2008; 5 FCX Clarity models sold - AutoblogGreen

I wonder what the current number of the "Sparrow" is now that it is known as the NMG. Have they sold many of them?

ETA: How many RAV4s were actually sold vs leased? It should be a milestone when Tesla passes that number too.

Good questions. I'm sure one of the TMC members will know or can find out.

For the NMG the most recent number I could find was "more than 300" as of July 15th, 2007: Myers Freeway Capable NMG by Ed Ring - EcoWorld

They initially planned to hit 500-1000 vehicles a year but I'm guessing they never hit that target or they would have more press about it.

RAV4EV numbers according to wikipedia; only 328 were sold in total, 1247 leased:
1997 69 (fleet lease only)
1998 359 (fleet lease only)
1999 255 (fleet lease only)
2000 106 (fleet lease only)
2001 160 (fleet lease only)
2002 - 1st half 218 (fleet lease) plus 147 (sold/lease-purchase)
2002 - 2nd half 82* (fleet lease) plus 153 (sold/lease-purchase)
2003 - 1st half 28 (sold/lease-purchase)
Total 1575*

Kind of off-topic:
Toyota.com : Vehicles : RAV4EV
"Although a significant marketing effort was undertaken for the RAV4-EV, we only sold about 300 vehicles a year."

Really off-topic:
Hmm, sounds like what GM said about the EV-1. I didn't see any advertising about the RAV4-EV in the years it was actually sold. I bet almost all non-EV-enthusiasts knew nothing about the RAV4-EV in those year, nor have they seen the ads. I don't call that significant marketing effort. Of course they were losing money on every car anyways so I can see why they don't want to spend more money on advertising.

So by July 1 they will have probably passed the RAV 4's sold and be really close to the Sparrow (NMG) sales figures. AND - i just realized this - by the end of the year they will have probably passed the EV1 numbers. That is COOL !!! They will be able to claim "more highway capable EV's sold than any other company"

Possibly. What about the turn of the century EVs? There were taxi fleets in Boston, Paris, and a few other hubs.

Perhaps,
"more highway capable EV's on the road than any other company"

works as well. (for now!)

I am pretty sure that they have passed Corbin now. And probably passed the number of RAV4's that SOLD or will do so in the next few days. I think you could argue that the cars sold before the turn of the century were not highway capable. Next step EV1's produced and then very shortly thereafter RAV4's produced. movin' on up ....

Yes, I think that Tesla will hit those numbers in short order.

I worry that (due to the economy and other things) there will be a bit of a drought after they deliver their current backlog. But they do seem on track to pass the EV1 numbers before the end of 2009!

Interesting thing about this list of car milestones: Each of these only had one model (although I know many had different revisions of the same model). Now that Tesla officially has multiple different models, we will have interesting milestones.

The Roadster will probably not pass the number of De Loreans before the Model S hits the streets, so we will have:
When number of Tesla cars > number of De Loreans
When the number of Roadsters > number of De Loreans
When number of Model S alone > number of DeLoreans
etc.

also depends on if you count the number sold or the number delivered. Model S has already past all the same numbers if you only count the deposits. But that is not really fair. Model S and Roadsters combined would put us past RAV4 and EV1 already.
