ETA: How many RAV4s were actually sold vs leased? It should be a milestone when Tesla passes that number too. |
For the NMG the most recent number I could find was "more than 300" as of July 15th, 2007:
Myers Freeway Capable NMG by Ed Ring - EcoWorld
They initially planned to hit 500-1000 vehicles a year but I'm guessing they never hit that target or they would have more press about it.
RAV4EV numbers according to wikipedia; only 328 were sold in total, 1247 leased:
1997 69 (fleet lease only)
1998 359 (fleet lease only)
1999 255 (fleet lease only)
2000 106 (fleet lease only)
2001 160 (fleet lease only)
2002 - 1st half 218 (fleet lease) plus 147 (sold/lease-purchase)
2002 - 2nd half 82* (fleet lease) plus 153 (sold/lease-purchase)
2003 - 1st half 28 (sold/lease-purchase)
Total 1575*

"Although a significant marketing effort was undertaken for the RAV4-EV, we only sold about 300 vehicles a year."
Really off-topic:
Hmm, sounds like what GM said about the EV-1. I didn't see any advertising about the RAV4-EV in the years it was actually sold. I bet almost all non-EV-enthusiasts knew nothing about the RAV4-EV in those year, nor have they seen the ads. I don't call that significant marketing effort. Of course they were losing money on every car anyways so I can see why they don't want to spend more money on advertising.
