I wonder if the property has room for a track?

Where did you get that address from, mt2? I didn't see it listed in the article - I guess I missed it.

Out by the airport wouldn't be too bad. Semi convenient to the rest of the Valley.
(and beyond!)

You didn't miss it. I searched for Equity Office Properties, Santa Clara CA - Google Maps. Note that selection (A) is in San Jose, but right outside of Santa Clara. Also note that it states "Place closed", so I figured this must be it.

More info about the Fremont space:

Santa Clara or Fremont may get Tesla HQ - Silicon Valley / San Jose Business Journal

Quote:
The Fremont site has been identified by sources as a 506,500-square-foot structure on Page Avenue that Hewlett-*Packard Co. sold to Overton Moore Properties of Gardena late last year. The 30-acre site was once used by Xerox Corp. to make typewriters, then occupied by Tandem Corp., which was bought by Compaq Corp., which in turn was acquired by HP.

And I appeared to get the Santa Clara site all wrong...
Quote:
The Santa Clara site is the former 250,000-square-foot Applied Materials Inc. campus on Augustine Drive now owned by Equity Office Properties. The property, slated to be redeveloped, is described as a large campus with one two-story building and two one-story structures.
Augustine Drive, Santa Clara, CA - Google Maps, perhaps? Looks much more likely.

Much larger space. Nicer neighborhood too, and less far away for people used to commuting to San Carlos.

Meanwhile, Tesla is also eyeing a 78-acre site of a defunct Boeing Co. airplane plant in Long Beach as the possible home of a factory where the company could build the Model S in quantities of up to 20,000 a year, according to knowledgeable sources.
