Maintenance cost at purchase time

I understand that there is still an 8k service charge, at time of purchase, for those living outside a service area. Can anyone say how long this coverage is for; e.g., the life of the car, 5 years...? Does it only cover getting the vehicle to a service center, but not cover any actual maintenance? If a person sold their vehicle, would there be any reimbursement of this charge and if so, would it or how would it be prorated? If a person pays for this coverage and a service center is subsequently opened that is convenient to them, would this charge, or a portion of it be refunded?

Great news y'all. Tesla has decided to waive the 8k service fee. Owners will need to get their vehicles to a service station (as needed) using whatever method is available/beneficial to them. This eliminates the need to consider how to rebate any of the service charge to individuals as service stations are opened that are more convenient to them.
