I always wondered what was under the covers in the PEM. Seems like some wasted space - I wonder if the space is required for cooling?
Would be nice for them to compact it, squish it to one side and allow the viewer to see the engine underneath.
Can't really see much in that photo. I'd think thermal management is certainly a design criterion, though. Also I believe the current setup has a piece of insulation below the PEM to shield it from motor heat.

All the more reason to move it farther away from that nasty hot engine, and let us get a look!
Actually I think they put quite a lot of effort squeezing everything into the PEM. What looks like empty space may just be a shield over another circuit board.
