I'm sure all the jokes about those blue ones have been done...

Ah yes, I see they have.

A couple photos from Steve Jurvetson:

Santa?s Electric on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

View from below: "Doug: good eye. My car drove right under this one on the way out. This one offers a nice perspective as the battery pack has yet to be installed."

Tesla Motor on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

View from above, sans PEM. This photo has been kicking around for a while. This seems like a nice place to include it.

I always wondered what was under the covers in the PEM. Seems like some wasted space - I wonder if the space is required for cooling?

Would be nice for them to compact it, squish it to one side and allow the viewer to see the engine underneath.

Can't really see much in that photo. I'd think thermal management is certainly a design criterion, though. Also I believe the current setup has a piece of insulation below the PEM to shield it from motor heat.

All the more reason to move it farther away from that nasty hot engine, and let us get a look!

Actually I think they put quite a lot of effort squeezing everything into the PEM. What looks like empty space may just be a shield over another circuit board.

What if the trunk insert was transparent?

Although I think other components would still obscure the view of the motor
