After reading R&B's list and SoflAuthor's, I have the following suggestion:

A wiki post that captures at least two lists of information:
(1) Checklist for new owners, aka "Tesla rep, please show me how this works"
(2) Checklist for unanswered questions that might have newer answers/data as new deliveries arrive.

I imagine the (1) list will only grow over time, while the (2) list shrinks with answers being repositioned into the Model S FAQ.

I agree that the two lists should be separate. There isn't much point in asking the delivery specialist who accompanies your car whether, say, electric folding side mirrors will be forthcoming or what will ultimately be offered as part of the opportunity console. I doubt they'd have that information, and if they do, I doubt they'd share it until official announcements have been made.

But a list of "how do I do this?" questions would serve two purposes: (1) the list provides a cheat sheet for TM, allowing them to ensure that delivery specialists have the answers, and (2) the list allows each of us who get a car in the next few months to get important questions asked and answered on the spot (there'll be a lot of excitement in my garage, and without a printed list, I know I'll forget to ask stuff).

Mods -- feel free to use my list at the TM forum (derived from R&B's) as a starting point for a wiki, if you're so inclined.

What I'd also like to see here is a list of what manufacturing defects the car might have that we should be on the lookout for because others have noticed them on their cars.

For instance, paint quality/scratches are something you really want to catch before you drive away so there's no doubt you didn't scratch it. I had an experience with my Roadster, where I missed an obvious flaw in the paint, but since the flaw was under the clear coat there wasn't any doubt that it was a defect. Tesla was, of course, very good about taking care of it.

So, even though Tesla is personally inspecting each car coming off the line right now, it'd be good to hear from owners about what they noticed either at or after delivery, so later people can benefit. I know I always fall into the "new car looks so great" mindset that I don't take the time to give new cars a hard, objective look before driving away. A checklist of what others might have found would be appreciated.

Hm. You might have just convinced me to pester a friend of mine to take some video footage up close of the vehicle exterior and interior for future reference if there are any issues.

I have been reading the threads about quality and some of the issues that new owners are having and thought this thread needed reviving. Here is a checklist of items that I will check when receiving my car:

Doors, operation closing, opening with and without fob.

Examine the exterior for scratches, scrapes, dings, and dents. Note any disfigurations carefully.
Confirm that the vehicle is clean inside and out. Examine interior for Damage.

Make sure that headlights, tail lights, parking lights, and turn signals function properly.

Alarm system works properly and can be armed and disarmed easily.

Power accessories should function flawlessly

Windows

Locks/doors and auto present handles, Check autolock distance/time

Seat positioning

Radio/XM player- check SlackerID

Floor mats

Side-view mirrors

Heat/air-conditioner fan motor and settings

Sunroof/moonroof check proper operation
Cruise control

Rear hatch opening and closing

Check J1772 adapter removal and insertion and charging

Visors & rear reading lights

6-50 adapter

HPwc and/or Mobile adapter, Check charging at 240/120 volts

Parcel shelf and cubby

Ask pair home link
Phone pair and show b/t reconnect

Include license plate bracket

Tire pressure

Nose cone removal

Check firmware/update status



Repair/replace items before you take possession; or get a written commitment, signed by an authorized manager, describing the work to be done and a date when it will be completed.

One of the more challenging exterior lights to verify: the side-light that turns on when you are going around a corner. It only seems to come on when you are moving at a reasonable speed, so hard to test in the garage by just turning the wheel while in drive.

Floor mats

Don't expect to find any floor mats in the 2nd row.

Also may want to check air suspension height setting.

To be pedantic in the interior light checking: ambient (buzzzzz) lights, dome lights, glove box light, trunk light, frunk light

Similar on the exterior light checking: DRL, fog lights and brake lights

One thing I'd add... As soon as you take delivery, go to your Trip resets and zero out Trip B. Then try to avoid ever resetting it again and you can see exactly what you total lifetime energy use is and your real world average Wh/mi (on the dash energy display).
