On September 23[SUP]rd[/SUP] the Sierra Club, Plug-In America and the Electric Automobile Association are organizing national events at many cities throughout the country to promote the adoption of electric vehicles. Ken Stokes is serving as the City Captain for Sarasota. Nigel and I are assisting. These events are still in the early planning stages, but in addition to Sarasota we expect Tampa, Kissimmee and Orlando to have events. We will be in contact with the event leaders to determine if there will be other participating Florida cities. In addition to Roadster owners, I expect that a number of folks will receive delivery of their Model Ss and they may wish to participate in the EV processions. We will provide more details as they become available.

Nigel has already started a
public thread regarding the Sarasota event. We will start new public threads for each participating Florida city.

For private discussions among Florida Tesla Motors Club members regarding these events, i.e., exchange of contact information, etc., please go to the appropriate discussion in the Florida Tesla Motors Club Group.

Thanks.

Central Florida Clean Cities will be supporting the worthwhile event!

Catch the latest Buzz on Electric Transportation and Get Charged-Up during Lake Eola's Electric Auto Showcase.
Join us on Sunday, September 23, 2012 10am - 2pm, next to the Farmer's Market along the Washington Street Cul-De-Sac as we celebrate National Plug-In Day.

Over 60 cities nationwide will be hosting similar events to promote these cleaner, quieter, economical and highly efficient vehicles. Hear from industry experts and vehicle owners about on how these vehicles operate, reduce refueling and operating expenses and are genuinely fun to drive.

Never pump gas again - hear from the utilities and charging station experts about the benefits of charging at home and how to locate and use one of the over 300 public fast-charging stations located within a 70 mile radius of downtown Orlando. There are ten public charging stations within a one mile radius of Lake Eola.

Ride and Drive an Electric Car - Electric car vendors will be available throughout the event providing a chance to test drive these amazing new vehicles, so you can see for yourself the enjoyment of owning or leasing an electric car.

EV Participants may receive a free ChargePoint card worth $4.95 in electric re-charge credits, which is more than enough to recharge a typically depleted battery. To register your electric vehicle for the event, contact John Parker at [email protected] or call 407-836-1445.

In addition to the National Plug-In Day festivities - we will also be celebrating Pollution Prevention Awareness week, focused on sustainability and reducing landfill waste.

Food and Drink will be available for purchase at the adjacent Farmers Market. Live entertainment will be ongoing throughout the day.

Information on driving electric vehicles, EV technology, pollution prevention and clean transportation will be available at display tables.

National Plug-In Day was launched in 2011 by Plug-In America, the Sierra Club and the Electric Auto Association. The idea is to bring together drivers and advocates to share their experiences with electric vehicles and how they are changing American driving. There are now 30 plug-in vehicles for sale in the U.S., and their popularity has been growing rapidly.

Partners in Orlando's National Plug-In Day event include: Orange County's Environmental Protection Division, City of Orlando, Get Ready Central Florida, Metroplan Orlando, Sierra Club of Central Florida Clean Cities coalition, Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC) and ChargePoint America.
