Tech package is not optional, for me anyway. That's simple.

I'm not sure I'd get the twin chargers. They would only be useful to me if I wanted to charge away from home using a >40A J1772 station or Roadster HPC with an adapter. Supercharging doesn't need it, and I don't care about charging fast at home - in fact, I prefer slow charging at home to conserve battery lifer

What makes me consider performance is the extra zip and the advantage of cornering in the 21" wheels. I have hopes of playing with it a little bit someday.
Although I like the look of the red pin stripe and the CF dash trim, those don't sell me. And neither does the "spoiler."

But dark 21"s on a dolphin gray Model S look killer.

I'd love to go for the 85kwh, but I'm already stretching my budget a bit as it is. For me personally, I don't feel that the performance package adds enough to justify the added cost.
Unfortunately, there isn't any way at this point to test things like the regular suspension or the 40/60 kwh. I've got a friend on the fence on some of those and he's a bit unsettled that he won't be able to try with and without them.

On the other hand, if you're far enough down the P list you might have more chances to test those types of configurations later in the year or early next year. I don't need to try this on the test drive, but I'm hoping at some point the store has both a regular sound and studio sound system so I can sit and see if I can tell the difference.

Remember the Perf is essentially a Sig model without Sig decal. So you also get the nicer headliner. Can't recall what else is different.

Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on your perspective), I'm not due for a car until February of 2013. That gives lots of time for shake-out of issues, and likely test driving more options.

I'm not so sure that's right. Signatures include the Signature Red choice, the Tech package, premium audio, twin chargers and the dreaded parcel shelf - included in the Sig price; Performance pricing doesn't those pricey bits. I knew leather + heated seats came in both Performance and Signature, but I thought the Alcantra only comes on the Performance flavors (Sig and non-Sig).

That might make my decision easier... I'm already planning on 85 kWh + air suspension in the car so I'm already a little closer to Performance already. The test cars are going to have it anyway.

I agree about the dolphin gray with dark wheels, intimidating indeed.

I keep going back and forth about the twin chargers, and the only reason I factor them in, is based on making assumptions of where the grid/infrastructure will be in 3 years or more. Thinking that it could make for some great convenience on some longer trips (or urgent turn around needs from home) - kind of a future proofing thing. Might help resale value too. But you're right 9.5/10 (at least for now, the second one isn't needed. And wouldn't want to make a habit of super-charging either, for the long term health of the batt.

Yeah, the more I think about how I drive, I just don't think I "need" the performance version. If money were no object, or less of one, I'd pounce on it.

We've been told that the second charger can be added in the future (although they want to sell it to us now, and it's probably going to be cheaper by a good margin as factory-installed). Given the state of play, I don't see the second charger being useful for me at all in the near future, and if the world changes, so can my car. The Performance/Standard issue, though, is a now-or-never decision. Like you, @SCW-Greg, in the world of infinite money I'd get one, but all reports to date have convinced me that the standard is already WOW enough.

SCW-Greg, it seems as if you mentioned the twin chargers and supercharging in the same breath; maybe stating the obvious but, just wanted to clarify that AC single/twin charger(s) and supercharging (which is DC) are unrelated. Supercharging hardware - standard with the 85 pack and optional with the 60 - is different.
VIN P 3552 - 60 kWh with Supercharging, Green, Black Roof, Black Leather, Piano Black trim, Tech Package, Active Air Suspension, 19" Wheels.
    Reserved February 2010 (US P 1,620). Delivered January 2013.

For me, the 2nd charger is the single least useful option available. As gg notes, you don't need it for super charging.

The only time you need a 2nd charger is when you want to charge kind of quickly, but you're not truly in a hurry because it'll still take hours. I can't envision the scenario where I've got 4.5 hours to spare for full charge with twin chargers, but I don't have the 9 hours it'd take with a single charger.
