if flying southwest is an option, you can buy tickets with assumption you are going at advanced booking prices. Then cancel/change them if needed later. They don't charge penalties and you can always apply the full amount credit to the other/another ticket.

It's what I do for any other trips. If I think I might go, buy the best priced ticket I can find on southwest. If the plans change or the fare drops, rebook and apply the funds from the first ticket or keep the difference as credit for a future flight.

I have a Sunday drive scheduled. It'd be great if Saturday drivers would report back so that us Sundayers would better know what to expect. (eg, any Factory tours?)

Is the test drive actually at the Freemont factory? Does anyone know the route?

Some people seemed to have assumed that it will be on the factory test track, but AFAIK there's been no official announcement yet. Tesla has said that more details will follow a few days before the event. If it's on public roads there's nothing to stop locals just standing on the sidewalk to watch (though I guess there's no sidewalk on the I-880....).

From the second Inside Tesla blog post, "On June 23rd and 24th, we will launch the Get Amped Model S Tour at our own Tesla Factory in Fremont, California. Franz von Holzhausen, our chief designer, has created a great seven to eight minute test drive course that extends beyond the factory to nearby streets. The course offers a variety of experiences that include freeway driving, long sweepers, tight turns, smooth and rough roads, and general urban driving. It’s the perfect way to experience how Model S grips the road and loves to run."

In the very fine print: don't speed, watch out for cops cause the cops will be looking for all these crazed out-of-towners.

Thanks for posting that, gjamrok! This clarifies something I wondered about in another thread--do you really get e-mails forever until you either test drive or all events are over. I guess so. (Someone probably answered me over there.)

    Received this disappointing email today:
We’ve received several inquiries around this matter and our current policy is that we cannot accommodate any protruding child seats in Model S. In our guidelines, this includes booster seats. We will have a static vehicle on the premises on which you are welcome to test the fit and comfort of your seats but they will not be able to be used on the test drive.
That's too bad . Wife will have to stay behind with the kids while I drive. She doesn't care so much - "ride in the back? done that".
Others with kids under 8 (GG, ddenboer, transl8r, etc) were you planning on having the kids along for the ride?

Yeah, it's a shame I had resigned to the fact that my son wouldn't be able to ride and my mother-in-law graciously offered to babysit while my wife and father-in-law accompany me...

I know finding a sitter may not be easy or convenient but, your wife may still have other compelling things to look forward to at the event?! All the colors, the final interiors and such?!

That REALLY sucks. I have three kids, and was hoping to have two of them sit in the third row. If there's no third row option in the test cars (still waiting for a reply from my rep, waiting a week now!!!) then I expect to use belt positioners for the two little ones.
