I reserved a Signature car (Europe) and was wondering if anyone knows why the Signature-series have a limited colour choice? Has Tesla ever said anything about that? I can imagine that, as they are being produced first, not all colours are available yet. But that would apply to American Signatures only. The European Signatures are being produced after several thousand regular US-cars have been built. Does anyone know the reason?

In Tesla's tradition to turn a constraint into an advantage, the limited number of Signature colors is meant to be a differentiating issue. Like in
"I saw a blue one, last friday!"
"I saw a brown one, yesterday!"
"And I saw a red one!" - "Wow, must have been a sig!"

To which I'd say "Bah... so what?! It's just another Model S!" (sour grapes :))

I just had a pretty long and interesting talk with one of the Norwegian sales reps/product specialists. He has now returned from Norway after spending quite some time at the London HQ. He was able to tell me numerous things with a high degree of certainty about 3-phase charging, CHAdeMO, signature choices, and delivery/finalization timing for EU (see my other posts in relevant threads).

About colours for signatures: After a lot of back-and-forth with the factory they have come to the following: EU signature cars can be in any color, however if you pick one of the non-signature colors your car will not have signature badging and you will not be allowed to have the white leather. If you want the white leather and/or signature badging you will need to go with one of the four signature colors. Price will be the same no matter your choice.

Sorry Johan, but
"After a lot of back-and-forth with the factory they have come to the following: EU signature cars can be in any color,"
is wrong.

According to St. Davies (TM UK) the only way to get a Non-Signature color on a Signature Model S is to step down from a Signature Model S to a normal Model S.
Of course this would mean loosing your reservation slot and to get your Model S after the 500 Signature Model S have been delivered. Signature Model S will start deliveries in Mai/june 2013 (according to the same source as above).

In that case I was misinformed by my rep. He said that this was possible, but that you would loose the "Signature badging/branding"... Anyway I downgraded to regular P now.

That sounds like the same thing. "You can get your sig in a non sig color, but then it won't be a sig". Probably made the right call. I wish I stepped down and got my color of choice (brown).
