ICE parking on Charging Station spots ticketable in Florida

"It is unlawful for a person to stop, stand, or park a vehicle that is not capable of using an electric recharging station within any parking space specifically designated for charging a vehicle. If a law enforcement officer finds a motor vehicle in violation of this subsection, the officer or specialist shall charge the operator or other person in charge of the vehicle in violation with a noncriminal traffic infraction, punishable as provided in s. 316.008(4) or s. 318.18."

I thought I would print that up and slap it on the windscreens of violators.

I wish it did more to say the specific charging station in question.

For instance, I think a LEAF could park in front of a Tesla station, or a Roadster could park in front of a CHAdeMO.

That would require more "thinking" from parking enforcement and we still have the problem for ICE drivers with different signage in every municipality. IMO Florida made a good start with this new parking law.

Hi Eric,

Florida has a statute that imposses fines and towing. However, these are newly installed chargers and the locals are not accustomed to looking for the EV signs quoting the statute. I feel painting the parking space to make it more obvious will assist in detering ICEing for those who did not deliberately intend to park in an EV space.

Hi Nigel, we are in Sebring, Highlands county. We have been gone since March but are in N cal on our way home for an eta about the middle of October. I am very excited about Tesla and have to wait till about April for our S but hope to attend some Fl EV events when we get home.
