The reservations are not transferable; it's listed in your Model S reservation agreement.
In late 2010, I considered reserving 10 Model S's with sequnce numbers below 4,000. One could view a low reservation number as a commodity. My strategy was to sell each reservation at a premium once the S took off and there was an insatiable demand for the car. People would be willing to pay an extra $5-$10k to purchase one of my reservations and take delivery in 2012 versus 2013 or later. If it didn't pan out, I could cancel the reservations and the only loss would be the opportunity cost of not having the $50k invested in something else.
