As far as I can tell, for a while... Especially since the roadster studio has the same egg (in fact, it's more useful in the roadster studio). I suspect it was originally for debugging.
Oh, this is real. I thought people were kidding about this unlock code. I'll have to try it out.
It really works -- it accomplishes nothing, but it does generate the dialog box.

That's the reason for the open console area, Mark -- it's the place for the drop-in thorium reactor to continually recharge the battery.
It crashed after this. I couldn't seem to reproduce it.
