Thanks. I'm finally up and running now with great support from Mark. Driving around got TPMS readings coming through and that is the last thing I was missing. I was amazed to see that the app even showed me the headlights were on.

Just a note on the antenna location: I ran the cable behind the side-wall carpet all the way back to behind the passenger seat, then velcro-ed the antenna to the back of the seat. The antenna and cable are completely invisible and easily removed if ever necessary. If you pull up the door sill (velcro-ed on) then you can pull off the carpet which is also only velcro-ed on (at least in the 2.5).

I've raised this on the github issue tracker:

Issue #35: Temperature display in iOS App · markwj/Open-Vehicle-Monitoring-System · GitHub

We'll follow through there. I believe the fix can be made in the apps.

Thanks. Maybe it could be a setting to toggle? I believe the Roadster reports motor/battery..etc temps in Celcius too even here so I don't mind that they match. Maybe the ambient temperature could be a separate toggle switch.

I started pulling my sidewall carpet up as you described in my 2.5, but stopped after about an inch and a half (4 cm for the Europeans). I think there was a seam (an iron-on seam) connecting the side carpet to the floor carpet. I like the seamless appearance of how the side carpet meets the floor, so I routed the wire up and back along the side. It is readily apparent where to hide the wire as you head to the door sill. The slack can be hidden either behind the fuse box (in the footwell) or there is a little hole under the door sill that becomes apparent when you have it exposed (that's where I ended up putting mine.)

Something that is not obvious, but becomes obvious after you struggle a few seconds (so I'll save you a few seconds). When routing the wire behind the passenger seat, when you get to the rear portion of door sill, the wire needs to hide behind a rubber threshold. Like an idiot, I spent about 2 minutes trying to stuff the wire under the internal side of the rubber threshold... then I realized the outside edge comes up easily and readily takes the wire... duh!

If anyone not-so-technical is looking to contribute to OVMS, a fantastic way would be an installation video. It appears that people are favoring the behind-the-passenger seat approach, but we are really not sure how involved that is (do you have to take out or loosen the waterfall by the fusebox?).

It was ridiculously easy!!! To give you an idea. Before I even touched the velcro, I connected everything to make sure it would work. I drove around with the box and antenna on the floor for a day. Today I decided to do the install. I didn't even unscrew the antenna wire or disconnect the CAN. I stuck the Box to the front of the foot well... then I thought, "maybe I should have waited before anchoring the box..." But never fear, I worked my way back from the box to the area behind the passenger seat and had wire to spare. Since I had the door sill still off, I tucked the slack under the sill and reattached. I went slow and it probably took me 5 minutes (maybe 10).

P.S. No, I didn't have to touch the fuse box. And what do you mean by waterfall? In America, that means something different

To get the door sills up do you just pull? The back looks easy, but the front hooks under that component.

I guess the antenna cable can go under the plastic/CF door sill, but from there how is it routed?

P.S. 30 second OVMS installation (switch, stick, plug) - have you noticed there is a little antenna cable already in the car going into the VMS. Just saying...

Thanks for the follow-up. I also bought a "Velocity Micro Cruz Android Tablet" on eBay for $70 and as far as I can tell it can't run the Android Marketplace either. It can run the Amazon AppStore app but that doesn't have the OVMS.

markwj: Any chance you could post a link to this .apk file for the app? I think I could install it on my Cruz if I have that.

    Thanks

Foxium looks after this app, and I've emailed him to ask him to respond to you.

To remove door sill, pull up from rear of door sill. Be gentle and give the vecro time to release. Do not pull up from the front, because as you noticed, the sill tucks under the... ahem... "waterfall." The sill needs to be tilted up, allowing it to hinge in the front. Once the sill has loosened enough, it will slide back.

The wire fits readily under the sill.

When ready to replace the sill, the steps are reversed. The only catch when putting it back is that the front of the sill has a specific slot it fits into. The waterfall not only captures the top of the sill, but there is a bottom to it too. So take a second or two to make sure the front of the sill is fully engaged in the waterfall, then make sure the wire you routed is where you want, then while keeping the sill fully engaged in the waterfall (by pushing towards the front of the car, allow the rear of the sill to come down and reconnect with the velcro. It seriously took longer to type than to do.
