Hmm, A123 offers this, too:
ALM Lead Acid Replacement Batteries
I wonder whether this works for marine applications?
Ah, cool! I wonder how expensive those things are.
I think what you have posted above are burglar alarm / UPS style batteries.
I found this, but it seems to be for an old product. Nevertheless it is eye wateringly expensive: http://grassrootsev.com/batteries.htm
I wonder if the A123s are any cheaper? As they are now going to be supplying BMW in quantity for ICEs, I hope so.
I hope those A123's come into a acceptable price-range (around EUR 150 ~200), that would make them useful for not only cars.
For paintball tournaments I developed a scoring system which runs on 12V in the field. Car batteries are always heavy and run out very quickly..

Yeah, I'm interested in whether it is cost effective for solar.
I've priced up some special lead acids that are designed to have 3x the cycle life, costing about double normal ones, but wondering if these might be better value.
I slapped one of these: http://www.shoraipower.com/p-151-lfx14a1-bs12.aspx in my motorcycle and have been very pleased. Saved me 6lbs over stock. You do need to buy a special charger to keep the cells balanced.
