Having some familiarity with GM's behavior towards their dealerships over the past decade, the word I would use to characterize GM's behavior is that of scum. Pure scum. Dealerships that had been with GM for decades were tossed out due to GM's intense desire to satisfy the pols that held the pursestrings to their survival. For 40 years I only bought GM products. Now I even refuse to buy any of their used cars. Giving GM the ability to screw their dealerships by removing laws protecting independents is anti-competitive. We don't need to resurrect the GM monopoly that existed during the 50's and 60's. GM mostly provides jobs for our Asian competitors.

For many pessimists, their underlying logic was that it is very difficult to start an auto company: high cost of entry and plenty of cutthroat competition. Which is certainly true. But Tesla avoided a lot of those issues - without the need for a very complicated modern gasoline engine and transmission, their cost of entry was relatively low. And although they haven't seemed to have taken advantage of it, Tesla had access to M-B and Toyota's parts bins. One of the great advantages an established automaker has in turning out a new model is the fact that most of its parts
they are already building.Tesla will have that advantage (in spades) when they build their Model X, and beyond. It actually will get a lot easier for Tesla from here on out.

Electric car haters don’t really have anything against EVs, per se, but they do object to having their tax dollars subsidize to the tune of $7500 plus the wealthy folks who drove away in their $100,000 plus electric cars. The Model S is a wonderful vehicle, and when the price of batteries ($44,000 for the 300 mile version) comes down, perhaps the low income folks who are subsidizing these self-congratulatory “early adopters” will be able to buy one themselves. And I’m still waiting to hear the logic that claims that subsidizing these folks will help usher in the age of electric vehicles. Lower cost batteries (MUCH lower) is the only thing that will do that. But then, since when were recent Federal laws passed on the basis of logic? I have little respect for the ethics of an automaker who is selling these cars containing their soon-to-be obsolete and hideously overpriced batteries when they well know that cheaper ones are within our reach. More than anyone else, they should know this. But business comes first, apparently.

To be fair, I think he may have a point. Wasn't it recently discussed that as the battery nears full the charging process slows down? So the last 30 minutes != the first 30. Granted, I don't know if Tesla has really ever said full battery in X time, I seem to recall them always saying "X% charge in Y minutes" where X <= 80%

I bet we will find that every supercharger station has in conjunction with it at least 1 HPC for those that need to continue to charge to 100%, or those that need partial charge while waiting for an occupied supercharger. Assuming that you were completely empty, 50% in 30 minutes on an 85Kw battery, then about 2 hours for the remainder.

To get it back on topic: I bet Kent would not see the logic in this!
