More likely there will be an App that has the same functionality because there will be an API that the developers can use.

I doubt anyone outside of Tesla has had a chance to see what can be done on Model S via the CAN bus.

Ah yes, but at what cost? I answered some very directed questions about end-user OVMS costs from a fairly senior Tesla person recently. If nothing else, OVMS sets the baseline cost for this type of service. Tesla can offer a more premium service at a higher cost, but the days of simply ignoring reasonable owner requests for telematics functionality are over.

I'm glad OVMS will be continued to be developed. Hopefully, basic functionality (AC/heat control, GPS, lock/unlock doors) will be included with the car but if not, OVMS can fill the void and for a much lower cost.

The point of OVMS is to give the users what they want, not what the manufacturers (sometimes grudgingly) give. To be open, and to have fun doing it,

So, for the ModelS, I can say that if Tesla's own app and services give the users what they want, at a reasonable price, it is unlikely anyone will bother porting OVMS to it. But, will they? History would indicate not (in general, not just Tesla).

I must say that I've used both the Leaf and Volt apps, and find the whole mechanism of status updates painful.

Regarding the comment on this being an App on the onboard computer, I doubt it. I doubt Tesla's API will be so extensive as to allow background apps this much access and control - but more than willing to be pleasantly surprised. If we could do the OVMS app without the hardware in the car, we would.

We'll have to wait and see what Tesla will deliver, and what it'll cost.

I think it means the tinkerers are more likely to have Android and that OVMS is now filtering down to more common folks.

Can you cheek Issues · markwj/Open-Vehicle-Monitoring-System · GitHub and ensure every issue you see in the Android App is listed there. We've only got 3 outstanding, with the worst being lack of support of the newer high-res phones now coming out. If there are others, please let us know.

I really feel for the Android developers. Recent stories like:
