I see you've created a matching account on Open Vehicle Systems. I'll eMail you directly with details.

The code you will need to extend/change is in PIC18 C. In general, what you will need is:

    • A hardware module for the car.
    • A bunch of spare parts to make up a cable for the volt, and document the connections used.
    • A microchip PICKIT3 programmer (you can get away with a PICKIT 2, but we find the PICKIT3 more useful).
    • The microchip MPLAB-X toolchain (free).
    • A serial connection to your PC/Mac - most people now using USB-serial converters.
    • Unless everything you need is documented, a USB CAN reader will be required. I've just switched to using CANUSB - The Low cost CAN to USB converter and it seems to work well. Speed is limited, but it is very easy to handle in scripts and I have a useful tool I'm working on for reverse-engineering can buses. You could also program a PIC yourself to do this, but it is probably easier to just use the canusb product or something similar.

We'll need to extend the code framework to support a compile-time switch for which CAN module to include, and also extend the Apps with Volt specific artwork. I'll handle that side, but the basic apps should work fine for development - but will make your volt look like a roadster / modelS . Server should need no changes.

When do you get you car?

    Regards, Mark.

Your fishing caught two (so far)

Where did you post? It would be interesting to see the feedback there.

Mac is ok, but best to do initial firmware upgrade to pickit3 on PC.

Where do you see the text message inside the iPhone app?
