I've been looking at what is needed to get this working on European Amperas/Volts again. 7000 owners may soon be asking for this functionality...
Seems like American Volt owners have already been doing some CAN bus hacking of their own. People are reporting that all the data that a read-only OVMS would need is available. Does this make sense to you guys?
Volt Diagnostic Tool
DashDaq data acquisition device?
$30 OBD2 CAN tool
EV Tools
The last document lists enough information to get started on it.
Can bus speed seems to be 500 Kbps, which is half of what the roadster uses. The Pic chip in the OVMS module can be set to 500 Kbps very easily, so thats not a problem.
But I don't see any charging information listed yet. Only the SOC.
We need Can bus log files, for thing like charging status, cable connected , estimated range etc.
We would need:
a) a developer with the car, ovms module and can bus capture tool
b) changed cable for the OVMS module
I am very willing to support this, with framework and the apps, but we're going to need someone with the car to handle the can bus module necessary (start with the roadster module already in ovms and adjust as necessary![]()

My iPhone app hasn't been able to connect since yesterday. I'm still able to send a text message with the message 'STAT' and get a response back so I know that part is working. Any ideas? I'm sure it's something simple I'm probably overlooking. Thanks.
I'm not having any problems connecting to the server/car.
Which server are you using?
Any chance your data plan ran out of juice?

password has something in it but I didn't type anything there.
I haven't changed anything since I set it up and it was working until recently. I'll double check on my plan. That's a good idea.
update: I checked my GoPhone balance and I still have $15.

Yeah. Still not working. Guess I'll have to use the text function. Actually going on a trip soon so would like to have it working. I wonder if I changed a setting somehow.
I tried unplugging the OVMS module from the car connection for a minute, then reconnecting it. It will respond with charge status to STAT command and shows up on GPS but doesn't have an active connection to the server.
Fixed: Somehow a password but not username was entered into the settings section on the iPhone. I deleted the password to leave username and password blank and it works now.

Dsm: ok now? If not, I suggest you check the GSM-only/GPRS switch to ensure it is in the GPRS setting,
