    But maybe it needs to.
Uhm, yeah, this isn't Star Trek; we don't have inertial dampers. The whole point is to keep the "gravity" vector vertical with respect to the cup.

Maybe a bit of friction to dampen the pendulum effect. These devices use the weight of the fluid, which means the COG needs to swing, which means it will then swing back and forth afterwards. If this were done with electric motors and a gravity/inertia detector, then the cup could just be turned around the COG, and it wouldn't need to swing. Or?

Better yet, anyone trying to get into MY ModelS with a cup of anything will get a swift kick in the ass and will be walking!

Seems difficult to find something online and be able to tell whether you can quickly open the lid with one hand.

Hey, yes! Imagine a Segway would swing you around like a pendulum. It has to do better.

    So the tech already exists.

The cup holder placement in the center armrest seems really klutzy, but I'm NOT going to put this thing on the dashboard.

On the Beta it sucks. Too far back for the driver and front passenger, uunreachable for the rear passengers.

It's going to take some yoga moves. Maybe hold the wheel at the top with your right hand while you reach under with your left arm and grab the cup...
