I've mentioned this before, but I hope you're all engineers who understand brake ventilation requirements and you have the Model S specs to know what will happen to the brakes on your brand new Tesla?

I am no brake engineer, though I have wrenched for a Formula 5000 team. I recognize that you are completely right about brake cooling as a potential problem. I would expect to only fit the moon disks for interstate travel. With full regen and thoughtful application, I don't think brake cooling would be a big problem unless you were pushing fast in the mountains and or lots of stop and go on a hot day in a city. But your caution is wise.

I've taken my G37 on the track - which is what you'd need to do to get the brakes that hot. I toasted my pads and rotors after three track days. But they never caught on fire...

(Could have probably fixed most of that by adding some venting, but instead I switched to running an old S2000. Much more practical for the track.)

The videos I posted are road cars after tough braking...there's plenty more on YouTube. Wonder how your G37 brakes would have faired if they'ed been enclosed without ventilation? I'm no expert but....

I think Plain like the old Porsche 928 rims would look best.

Excellent. Has anyone managed to get the same info for the 21s?

    All I have is this:
    For the 19” options:
    Front: 8 inches (8.0J x 19)
    Rear: 9 inches (9.0J x 19)

    For the 21” options:

    Front/Rear: 8.5 inches (8.5J x 21)
Bolt pattern would be the same, not sure about offset.

Of course the bolt pattern is the same - I should have known that. I think you can calculate the difference in offset from the wheel widths.

FWIW, TireRack.com has a listing for the Tesla 2013 Models S, but no wheels match. Plenty of 19" tires match.

That's strange. I saved the 2013 Model S in my 'upgrade garage' and it still shows about 7 tires for both the 19" and 21" wheels.
