    Toyota (Tesla?) EV Record attempt at Nurburgring

    Toyota EV Record attempt at Nurburgring

    ...Toyota announcing that they are going to have a crack at the lap record of the Nurburgring in an Electric Vehicle. Currently it stands at 9min 1.338secs and Toyota say that they have comfortably beaten that already in informal testing.

    The 100% electric car is a two seater with a top speed of 260km/h and a 0-100km/h figure of 3.9 seconds. It comes out of the Toyota Motorsport Headquarters in Cologne, Germany, where the F1 team was based until its withdrawal from the sport at the end of 2009.
    This sounds a lot like a Roadster!

    I always found www.thechargingpoint.com a great website but it is UK-centric; any chance of becoming US oriented also?

    Buying an EV is one thing, being able to drive it beyond city limits another...

    In case someone likes to attend :

    thank you for your email. It is not possible to visit the pits/paddock area for this event but the public viewing areas are open as normal at the Nordschleife. We expect to do our first run at around 10:00, and our second run around 15:00. But please consider, this is not a public event so there is very little 'entertainment'.

    Kind regards,

    toyota-smashes-nurburgring-electric-car-lap-record

    Toyota set a new lap record at the Nurburgring-Nordschleife for an electric car of just 7:47.79 yesterday, smashing the previous record of 9:01.3 as set by the Peugeot EX1 Concept back in May.

    The quick time around the 13-odd miles of the Green Hell was set by Toyota Motorsports GmbH (TMG) in its prototype electric race car you see here.

    And to put this lap time into prospective, it is less than 30 seconds off the 'Ring times of cars like the Nissan GT-R, Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and Dodge Viper ACR.

    Toyota sets a new record on the Nurnburgring with a EV-racer

    Just found this: Toyota Motorsport GmbH - EV Lap Record Attempt

    And for a video: Nieuw elektrisch ronderecord Nurburgring Toyota video Autojunk.nl (62281)

    They lapped the Nurnburgring in 7:47, faster then a errari 599 GTB Fiorano, Wiesmann GT MF5, Porsche 997 GT3 RS and a BMW M3 GTS!

    Check out the website of Toyota Motorsport, that car has some really cool specs:

    * Top speed: 260km/h
    * 0-50 km/h: 1.8 sec
    * 0-100 km/h: 3.9 sec (Muhaha, the Roadster sport still beats them )
    * Torque: 800NM
    * Power: 280kW
    * Battery: 41.5kWh

    Congrats Toyota!

    How much of this car was actually Toyota?

    And I wonder how much of the 41.5 kWh battery it used on the lap?
