85kWh battery being phased out?

It seems to be the same in Germany. For the moment the configuration page is not available. Wednesday the 27th, 12:35 local German time.
I´m keen on checking the changes :redface:

Indeed... What's probably bad is that you can no longer buy a "big battery" RWD Model S. On the 70 has the "save $6200 if you go RWD" option now.

I can reach the configuration page for germany. 85 is still there. But for Canada, 85 seems gone.

In the Netherlands it's still possible at this moment.

I thought the 85 would be phased out, as well as 2WD phased out... I don't know much about making things, but it seems logical that making two things (batteries) is easier than making 3 things.

RIP 85 kWh battery pack option

Someone noticed over on /r/teslamotors that the Canadians no longer have an 85kw battery option under any configuration. And there is no longer a RWD s90 (gone for a while in the US).

Typo or portense of things to come?

You might just be right, just checked, does that mean my Classic (2013) S85 RWD will be worth more due to its rarity? will wait and see.

There is already a thread on this. Sounds like its just Tesla mucking with the website. I wouldn't expect the 85 to be phased out until the 100 shows up.

Sure hope not. I also hope that Tesla doesn't begin selling capped 90 kWh packs like they did for the 40 kWh. IMO, I'd rather have 85 kWh cells than those ones in the 90.

I'm pretty sure that you will lose value on the S. I know that some Tesla's without autopilot have had their value depreciated.

Why not? The 40 kWh MS will not see battery degradation for a long time, because it's using a 60 kWh battery. Applying the same logic on the capped 90 kWh battery, should new 85 kWh MS benefit from additional 5 kWh battery?

Is there a separate part number for the 90kwh pack? It would surprise me if Tesla was actually making two separate packs for such a small difference in power. It wouldn't surprise me if the current 85kwh pack was just a software limited 90kwh pack.

There is, the 90kWh pack is a different chemistry than the 85kWh pack is.

Seems pretty clear that it's gone in Canada. And why wouldn't you expect it? why should Tesla continue to make both an 85 and a 90? There's so little difference between them that it's ridiculous to keep making both. That's less than the difference between 60 and 70, yet they discontinued the 60 pretty much instantly when the 70 appeared.
Sure, in a little while we'll probably see a 100, or 105, or whatever appear, and the 90 will vanish, it's progress, it happens.

Not sure I understand the logic. A 90 capped to 85 will give you less degradation over time than an 85. Nothing wrong with the 90 cells.
