I thought that having a thread for tips, tricks, and destination suggestions for driving Tesla's into out beautiful mountains would make a good thread.

I will start with some interesting places in SW Colorado and Northern New Mexico.

Full disclosure: I helped set up the 70 Amp J-Plugs in Salida and Pagosa and have become friends with the both owners, but have no financial interest in either location..

Great idea, Cottonwood! I am looking for some info on some day trips with my Tesla.

I'm going to suggest a day trip to Silverthorne for its recreation center. Yep you got it - not the outlet or the nearby skiing. The rec center rocks! It has an indoor water slide (2 to be exact) and warm water pools as well as a lot of fitness equipment. We spent half a day there when we were driving a demo last November and I am looking forward to going back up with my own Tesla. It's a great place for kids and adults and the Supercharger is within a 5 minute (if you're slow) walking distance to the rec center so it's perfectly located. There's also a Starbucks next to the Silverthorne Supercharger so get some coffee after a fun day at the rec center.

Town of Silverthorne : Recreation Center

Tip: There's not a sidewalk on the road between the SC and the rec center but the road is not heavily traveled and the cars don't go too fast so just walk on the road and move over as much as you can when you see/hear a car approaching.

I read somewhere that there's a casino in Cripple Creek that has a HPWC but can't remember which one that is.

The town of Cripple Creek is very EV friendly. There are HPWCs at Wildwood and Century casinos. There is another at Cripple Creek city parking, and another at the Carr Manor Historic Inn (guests only). I believe all of those locations have an accompanying J1772 at around 30A for charging non-Teslas. Pretty amazing for such a small town!

Thank you for the info. Trying to convince DH to go there for his birthday weekend. ;)

I want to try a trip there sometime. A town of 1,200 people with 4 destination charger locations is pretty remarkable, and it is an easy drive from the Colorado Springs Supercharger!

Cottonwood! I am one of the organizers of the Cripple Creek Tesla Rally. It would be our PLEASRE to welcome you and any of your famous, early Teslas to our rally! This year it will be August 13, 2016. We are actively working to get even more charging in this tiny Colorado town. The trip is no problem any more, since we now have a supercharger in Colorado Springs. Hope to see you there! Mac csevc.com

Cottonwood! Thanks for the information as I travel to the Four Corners area a few times a year. In fact, I was toying with the idea of asking an Alamosa, CO business to apply for the Destination Charger program - what do you think? If a business there can get two HPWCs at 80 amps, there would be no problem with a business being closed or waiting for a Leaf owner (or another Tesla) to be done with the charger. I'm certainly willing to drive there and talk to a few hotels/restaurants to provide a backup path to the Four Corners...

I'm sure this is still early in your planning but please keep the TMC group updated. If timing works out, I would love to be able to join in.

I will put the date on my calendar. I hope to join...

See 4 Corners EV Charging - Page 5 for my reply. The Destination Charging Program will regularly provide 2 HPWC's and 1 32A J1772 in a package.

Mac - be nice if you could get one or more of the casinos to throw us some bones such as some free play, a comped room and/or meal, etc. That's how they get people in the door and from what I saw during my visit last year, they need it.
