For next week in Monterey, CA August 15-21 are there any Tesla events going on?

Yes, Mary Hand and my wife, Karen, have been busy organizing a Tesla owners' activity for Auto Week, as discussed on the Northern California email list [email protected] where a bunch of us have been organizing periodic Tesla drives -- more owners welcome!

Two activities are planned. The first is the "Dine in Di-Vine" dinner on Friday, August 19th, at Chateau Julien in Carmel Valley where our cars would be featured as part of the Alternative Fuel Vehicles display. Tesla Motors will also be participating at Chateau Julien and making available test drives by appointment prior to the dinner. If you want to join in for this dinner, you should arrive by 5:30 in order to get parked in the circular courtyard leading to the wine tasting room. We participated in this casual event last year and found it very enjoyable. Remember to bring a jacket as it could get chilly sitting outside as the night progresses.

For all Tesla car owners/participants, CJ will offer 10% off the reservation price ($63) plus complimentary reception wine. When making reservations, please have owners reference "Tesla Owner" in the comment section of their order, then they will adjust the ticket price manually. We have made arrangements with CJ so that anyone who makes reservations as part of the Tesla group will automatically be given the 7pm seating.

For more information and dinner reservations please see: Wine Shop - Chateau Julien

The second activity will be to show off our cars in downtown Carmel on Saturday, August 20. At our request, Tesla Motors has paid to reserve five parking spots in downtown Carmel on the south side of Ocean Avenue between Lincoln and Delores. So, unlike last year when we had to cruise around until we could scrounge a couple of spots, we'll have dedicated space all day where we can rotate in cars. Last year we had a great time demonstrating that a beautiful sports car exists that does not create large amounts of noise pollution while burning copious amounts of gasoline. The town will be crawling with Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Maseratis, and every other kind of high end sports car. Even though many in the crowd are petrol-heads, we had people "high fiving" us for driving our clean cars. Tesla will be bringing some cars and people on their own, but we should have at least two or three spaces available for us through the reserved time from 10am to 6pm.

Please reply or PM if you are able to join us and what time you would be available. The Hands and the Casners will be staying in Monterey on Friday night, so it will be easy for us to get to the Ocean Avenue parking spaces at the 10am start of the reserved period. We'd like to coordinate what times others of you would like to be there, say for two or three hours or more if you like. We can rotate cars in and out so everyone gets a chance if we have more cars than the available spaces. We may organize a dinner of our own on Saturday evening for those who are interested. Also say if you will need charging on the way down or back so we can try to coordinate timing for that as well. Fast charging is available at the Rabobank in Salinas with a J1772 adapter. Slower charging is available with an AVCON adapter at the Salinas Costco (if it hasn't been removed already) or the West Custom House Garage in Monterey. See evchargernews.com for charger locations.
