Supercharger - Woodland, CA (LIVE 19 Nov 2020, 12 V3 stalls)

Somewhere closer to Sacramento would be ideal, near the 50/99/5/80 connections would be better to pick up traffic in all directions. Other than dealing with the inevitable locals using it.

I would hope that with Folsom, Roseville, Rocklin and the proposed Placerville Supercharger that having one centralized in Sac would be unnecessary. (But I defer to your knowledge of Sac.)

None of the above are on I-5 or CA-99, the main north-south routes. It's 176 miles between the Manteca to Corning superchargers and Folsom/Roseville/Rocklin are all 20+ miles off the route.

Woodland's a possibility, but personally I'd prefer Williams to provide a connector with E-W S.R. 20, with Dunnigan a 3rd choice. Any of these would allow Corning to be moved up to Red Bluff, which is where it should be (better access to Lassen, as well as to 101 via 36). OTOH, I-5 at S.R. 99 in N. Natomas or at I-80 in N. Sacramento would provide connection to 99 North. While we're at it, they could also use SCs in Oroville or Chico, to serve either S.R. 70 or 32 respectively.

Thank you, Emupilot, for pointing out the obvious. I took your post as condescending, like I cannot even read a road map. I have driven on all 15,143 miles (per CA Highways) of signed California interstate, federal and state highways in my 47-plus years of having a driver license. I think I know the highways and distances and routing throughout California better than most people, including CalTrans and CHP.

The thesis of this thread was whether a Supercharger in Woodland made sense, and ddmit suggested that the greater downtown region of Sac might be better as it would serve all travelers going north/south; east/west; or a combination. I was merely offering a difference in opinion in that for travelers heading east-west an addition in Sacramento might be a little redundant as opposed to having one further north for those heading to and from the Sacramento Valley, because as you correctly point out, the distance between Manteca and Corning is around 175 miles.

You are further correct in asserting that SR99 is not served by a Supercharger north of Sac. But time will tell us if one will be going in near Oroville on SR70 (or Marysville/Yuba City) to enable crossing the Sierra north of Interstate 80.

But, Guy, one can take SR16 west from Woodland through Esparto and up the Cache Creek Canyon to gamble at the Indian casino near Guinda! Besides, highway 16 terminates at SR20 anyway, so it might be slightly more sensible to locate a SC at Woodland. Cheers!

It wasn't intended to be condescending at all. I did not note your "Central Valley" location and I am completely unaware of your driving history.

What, bypass Granzella's in Williams for a Casino? Surely you jest - casinos are locations for HPWCs!:tongue: I think the benefits of E-W travel on 20 at the I-5 junction, especially given the crappy location of the SC in Ukiah instead of either Hopland or better yet Calpella/Willits, calls for Williams. You could put an SC in Marysville/Yuba City instead, but I personally like Williams and North Natomas (S.R. 99N), plus Chico or Oroville. Ultimately we want 'all of the above', but we're talking initial coverage.

Just north of Sacramento, right before the interstate 5, Highway 99 split would be the best. Restaurants nearby, and it is not too far if someone is using Highway 50 or 80. Although, 50 and 80 are pretty well covered with other superchargers

Anyone been keeping a lookout for permits? Looks like woodland should be getting one soon.

I've been looking just after the first of each month when Yolo County posts them, and nothing so far. I have a couple of theories for location, but the ones I've checked out have nothing yet.

[edit] Looks like we should be checking City of Woodland, too, but I can't find online where to check their permits. I'm not in Woodland often enough where I've got time to head down and check with the building dept in person.

Saw pictures this morning of pedestals going in at County Fair Mall by JC Penny's. Will try to investigate personally tomorrow.

Just based on the location, I expect those would be urban. Way too inconvenient from I-5 (or even 113)

It was number 3 on my list of likely places in Woodland. Expect it to get ICEd during the county fair, but otherwise should be good, as the pictures I saw showed it in a corner of the parking lot that rarely has cars.

For such a small town, that is quite a diversion. I've spent a lot of time in Woodland and this isn't even a place I had been to. Still, I would not expect an urban supercharger in Woodland. This doesn't seem like a place that would be inundated with "locals."

Photos were taken. Looks odd for Tesla to me, but I really have no idea. I would have thought an Electrify America site would be closer to the WalMart Market. Probably worth a call to the Woodland Building permits, but I'm super busy for the next few weeks so I'm not volunteering.

I had to laugh at the comment about not being inundated with locals -- at the first stop light I hit leaving the mall, including my car there were 4 Model 3s and a Model S.
