"You must be new here".

Put differently, with appropriate language it is utterly unnecessary to resort to emoticons or simple abbreviations. And FAR more effective and memorable.

Listen to this mild-mannered Mod. Emoticons are add-ons for clarity (especially to denote sarcasm). Smiles and laughs in person are great, but they don't translate well to the digital word (except, to some degree, instant messaging/texting). You've got a few minutes to think when it comes to a posting, so a "haha" or a "lol" are really unnecessary.

You should say something that makes me say "oh..mman!"
