Put your excess up and go with market value as long as you have new car replacement for the first two years.

With my excess at $2,000 my insurance is now only $900 per year....

My car is a Model S 70 (non-dual) with some options, came in at $128k before that last two price rises, now quotes at $145k'ish.

Oh, I used RACV (same as NRMA or RACQ), great to deal with, I'll save a further 10% when I move my X3 and Range Rover across.

I agree with an earlier poster that insurers can't just be compared on price. I know from experience that some insurers such as AAMI (owned by Suncorp) will insist that you use their repairer and the work isn't necessarily going to be as good as you might be expecting. I switched a few years ago to Allianz for Marge's car simply because they allow you to use the manufacturer's recommended/approved repairer and the extra cost has already paid for itself (Marge gets into a few "scrapes"...)

I just rang my current insurer for a quote (my car will be delivered in about 3 weeks). I've got two cars and three houses insured with them and been insured with them for quite a few years. Only claim I've had was a minor at fault claim 2 1/2 years ago in a reversing incident with another car in a car park. Because of that, they refused to ensure my Tesla "due to it's high value" and "my claim history". So as a result they will now lose all my business. So short sighted.

I am interested in the detail of your quote in particular what Value they cover up to? I went with AAMI originally and have not long renewed but I have a cap of $150K replacement value of an exact vehicle is $202873 at todays current pricing. I am not at all happy about $52K gap to replace if it gets written off.

Thats exactly why I ditched AAMI for insuring my Tesla. Have had multiple other policies with them and good driving record but was told maximum value I could insure for a year ago was $115k on a $150k car. Thank you and goodbye.

I ended up with NRMA who gave new for old replacement at a competitive price. Renewal price late last year was pretty much the same as previous year.

My YOUI comprehensive is 'Market Value' with no limit specified for 2014 Tesla Model S 85 Hatchback.
Basic excess $1500 with a few other odds and sods. Also NO under 30 drivers.
Total price currently $786.52 - was originally about $100 more but they bought it down due to us having other policies with them.

Worth talking to Shannons too (13 46 46) - I found them very easy to deal with, they seem to specialise more in this sort of thing, and I have what at this stage looks like a pretty good quote. Barring something better coming up I'll probably be going with them. Agreed value, free windscreen replacement each year, 2 year new for old replacement on total loss, free choice of repairer, $1600 excess.
