The question is phrased to make sure we are not just talking about "Uh, they have ONE in San Jose or Palo Alto". I'm thinking when will they have one in the big EV markets - so I looked at Best Electric Car Cities In US which quotes

  1. San Francisco
  2. Seattle
  3. San Diego
  4. Austin
  5. Honolulu
  6. Los Angeles
  7. Portland (Oregon)
  8. Detroit (Tesla is not allowed to sell in Michigan, so let's use Cleveland as proxy)
  9. Washington, DC
  10. Boston
Not sure Honolulu is a key market for the Model X - so let's say when will have 8 out of these 10 (and I assume San Francisco to mean "Bay Area") have at least one Model X for test drives.

Please - this is not a suggestion to discuss the list of top markets. If you want, replace Detroit with Atlanta and San Diego with New York. Or make any other substitution that seems reasonable. As long as it isn't 10 cities in California :)
The point of the poll is to discuss when Model X will be in the major show rooms - not which are the largest markets for Tesla.

Model S does very well here - I expect nothing less from the X. Especially judging by the numbers of Cayennes, X5s, and X6s that I see daily.

It's all speculation and guesswork for me anyway, but I voted end of January. My thinking is that a small number of test drive / showroom cars goes a long way (20 cars puts 1 in the showroom, and 1 in the parking lot for test drives, for all 10 cities on your list). I couldn't easily count all of the galleries on the Tesla Motors map, but if there are 50 in the US, then 100 cars provides 2 for every one of those showrooms.

There are also a significant minority of Signature reservation holders that haven't configured yet (I assume we're a minority). The last thing I was told is that there isn't a configure-or-cancel date (I brought it up in fact), and their expectation was that there would be cars in showrooms for people that needed to see the car in person to make the configuration decision. The person on the phone also indicated late December or January for cars to be available, but I heavily discount anything said about the future (I expect that's a statement of rational expectation on their part, not a statement of certain intent on Tesla's part - hence this poll).

I'm entirely fine with the idea that I'll be a late Signature vin after being an early reservation holder. I'm also fine with the idea that production deliveries will start before I'm in the queue, so that's not an issue.

Law of the internet. Every thread turns into a discussion of something else.
I explained how I got to that list. I didn't create that list, I wasn't really hoping for an argument of that list. I was hoping to get an idea what people thought was a realistic time line for stores in major markets to have Model X for test drives.
So far more than half of the votes (9 out of 17) say late March or later. Interesting.

As an MX reservation holder, I received a link to this test drive schedule from Tesla this morning. First come, first served.

And as a Model X reservation holder, I did not. I am still trying to figure this one out.

So to answer the question asked in the poll - Tesla themselves don't think they'll have cars available for test drives in the major markets AT ALL in Q1 - because why otherwise would they schedule this silly tour all the way through the end of March.

What an utter disaster. So glad I cancelled my reservation, because at the rate they are going they won't even get through their P90D orders in the first half of '16...

This is amazing! Now maybe I can test drive this thing before I spend 150K lol... So Crazy...

But, when you click on the RSVP for your respective city, and (I presume because I) have already configured, you get locked out. I'm emailing my local SC guys to undo this restriction....
