It's from Tesla offering the pre-paid battery replacement deal for $12k when you buy a Roadster.
If I had done that in 2009, the earliest I could collect the battery is 2016. Every year earlier they charge me an additional $2k, every year after they give back $1k.
I should have calculated some rate of return on Tesla holding the $12k for 7 years - but I think the rate is thin, and I think they have built in nice profit margin on the deal without that anyway - I could be wrong.
