I'm not sure this is certain proof of a Placerville Tesla Supercharger site, but I found pdf map on the El Dorado County Government website that shows two sites for Tesla Superchargers in El Dorado County. One site is in Placerville, in the Hangtown Village Square, which is right off highway 50, close to food and a few stores. This site appears to have been approved and a contract signed with Tesla. Although no construction has started yet that I can see.

The map also shows another location at Heavenly Ski Resort, which the map indicates they are still researching a location for the install. The map does not indicate when these were approved, but does indicated a targeted installation year though.

"Contract Signed" and an address? I think that's good enough. Emailing [email protected] now. :)

I think you are jumping to conclusions based on very stale information here.
This map was prepared on 01/29/2014 ... Nearly 2 years ago.
I believe that whatever 'signed contract' there was, it has now fallen through
(I recall reading this somewhere).
Can anyone find any more recent and concrete information?
... I can't.

South Lake Tahoe to Placerville is an extreme climb in altitude and then a long downhill run. Not exactly sure the cost to battery level (EV Trip Planner may give one guesstimate). But there are many, many factors on this leg and changes occur rapidly. Probably best to have a full charge going either direction.

I've happily driven with a 90% charge at Folsom to the Nevada side of Heavenly (90 miles with ~7300 ft. of elevation gain), then back to Folsom in my P85. Not a problem. Expensive getting there but cheap getting back. Having a supercharger in Placerville would make it about 70 instead of 90 miles and only ~5600 ft. of elevation gain. Certainly an improvement, but hardly essential, especially with a destination charger or several in South Lake Tahoe.

Any hints on the source of it having fallen through would be useful.

I'm not stating this as a fact, but stale or not, the map does mention that the estimated install date is 2016. So even if this map was created in 2014, they projected out that it would take 2 years to finish. If you have information to the contrary, can you find this and update?

I stand corrected as I only have experienced that rout by bicycle

Placerville SC info is not stale at all as the current map has a Nov 2015 date!!
Install date: estimate 2016
I anticipate this is for real or the map would not have been updated.

SLT also has an anticipated 2016 date although they are still looking for a site.

This is where I saw it discussed before. They had apparently ran into some snags with possible ground contamination from old gas stations. So if the contract is signed it would indicate that they are over that issue.

The salient comment:
"Hello Friends...We were approached by the Environmental Management District to see if we would consider a Tesla Charging station in Hangtown Village Square...it would be the only one from Folsom to Tahoe, and Placerville would highlighted in every Tesla! It was slated to go in this Spring and as we worked with Tesla and PGE to find the right site, we discovered it was right around where the State is continuing to monitor the ground from the old service stations that were there over 35 years ago. So Tesla is not drilling. No taxpayer money is going for the project, and Tesla moved our project off until 2016. Good news, the underground monitoring is done for now and the Starbucks drive-thru is unobstructed! As soon as Tesla gets this project moving again and we get the contract finalized, I will let you know! It will be a good thing for our Placerville businesses and restaurants."

Last week I spoke to a representative from the El Dorado County Air Quality Management office, he and I discussed the future of Electric Vehicle charging around the county. He said that when he last spoke to the Tesla representative, they had not pulled the plug (sorry for the pun) on the installation of the superchargers in both Placerville and in South Lake Tahoe. While there were some issues with the location they chose for Placerville, due to an old gas station that was located in the area, they had not canceled that contract. However, they did put it on a lower priority. There were also issues with the sites that Tesla looked at in South Lake Tahoe due to property owners of the parking lots. It seems Tesla is still interested in a supercharger in both sites, they are just not high priority locations for them right now. So as far as the county knows, those sites are still planned for superchargers, but not in the near future. It does appear that the supercharger for SLT will be closer to the casinos than to Heavenly. I was told that they were looking at a parking structure that was on city property, close to Heavenly's stateline gondola. But that is only speculation at this point.
