New Error Message - ID1440 HVAC Coolant Pump UnderCurrent

I got a new error message over the weekend.

"ID1440 HVAC Coolant Pump UnderCurrent"

Saw the message coming up over the weekend for the first time, but I don't drive everyday. However, I drove the Roadster last night and when I got back and plugged in, I noticed the Roadster was not cooling the battery at all. Ambient was about 70 F degrees last night. Roadster battery temp was 98 F after the drive and did not come down at all with a Cooldown cycle.

When I woke up, ambient temp was 68 F and battery temp was 89 F.

I called the SC this AM and they wanted me to send them logs before bringing the car in. Will have to do that after work today.

I'm a little frustrated but thankfully I'm under CPO warranty for another 11 months.

Has anyone seen this message before?

Stevan, great lead! However these look like two different error messages but possibly they might have a similar relation. When reading them, they imply the same thing but they both are worded differently and also have two different error codes. I believe if the coolant circulating pump dies, the HVAC system won't kick on since there's no way to circulate the warm coolant through the cooling condenser.

Stefan, great info. Thanks!

wiztecy, I'm getting a weird whirring sound coming from under the PEM on the passenger side. It sounds like the pump is trying to start, but instead stalls.

I sent the logs to the SC this afternoon after work. They said they have a "Roadster specialist" who will take a look in the AM, but from Stefan's link, it looks I need new pumps.

I'm pretty frustrated to be honest. It finally cooled off here in Phoenix but the battery temp remains high since the TMS can't seem to cool the battery.

Hope the part is in stock and that this can be fixed soon. Very thankful I still have a warranty. Will have to look into extending it before it expires in 9/2016.

If you have a 2.0 or 2.5 you have two pumps. If one is bad, the PEM will start both pumps but shut down if both are not working. I thought at first the newer system with two pumps would be for redundancy in case one failed, but no, now there are just twice as many parts to fail.

Well, seems like a quick fix. My Roadster is repaired and ready for pick-up:

Performed inspection and found coolant level low. Performed leak locate and found return line fitting at coolant reservoir worn and leaking. Confirmed coolant reservoir return fitting is worn and leaking. Replaced Coolant reservoir assembly and verified operation after pressure test.

Glad it wasn't anything too serious!

Excellent! It's always scary when the Roadster starts throwing error messages. Will is be a $75.00 problem? a $7,500.00 problem?
