Tesla unresponsive

After considering it for several months, I decided to begin the process of purchasing a Model S. I began by using Tesla's web page to find out what my trade-in was worth. Tesla responded quickly by e-mail, and asked me many questions about my car. I submitted the answers on Monday, and was told I should expect to hear from them in 24 to 48 hours. It's now been six days since I last heard from them. I sent a follow-up e-mail on Friday asking the status, but no response. This strikes me as a strange way to do business. Unfortunately, my profound hearing loss prevents me from using the telephone, so e-mail is my best form of communication. Is this kind of unresponsiveness common with Tesla? If they simply don't want my car in trade, you'd think they'd have the courtesy to tell me that.

If you have an "Ownership Advisor" (the person that would have taken you on your test drive) they can assist. The way it worked for me was they circulated my trade-in info to many brokers in my area. It took about a week and I was very disappointed. The generally offered what they would pay at auctions. I ended up selling it myself for close to double Tesla's offer.

Yes, the person who asked the questions is an Owner Advisor in their Cleveland office. Apparently, the Cleveland office services all of Michigan, where I am located. Since that office is about 250 miles from my home, I opted not to go there for a test drive. My neighbor has a Model S, and he gave me a drive in his car.

It took them the 7 days to get back to me as well and I am a regular customer. Also, you are going to be get lowballed badly so don't expect to much from them. They get offers from several wholesalers in your area, lower that price to you and sell to them making a small profit. You are better to sell it on craigslist, ebay etc....

Also, keep in mind that, according to my local Tesla folks, they've been pretty busy since the autopilot announcement. Keep emailing and tell them you're trying to get the quote with enough time to make a decision before the referral program runs out (got any Tesla friends south of you in Ohio?).

You'll love the car. I'm waiting on my second one to arrive.

If you don't want the hassle of selling it yourself, I'd get a quote from Carmax while you wait to hear back. I bet they'll be higher. Assuming you have one not too far from you, of course.

Maybe the email went to spam or the phone call was missed?

Congratulations on your decision.

My CPO's trade-in/purchase process took what seemed like a very long time. The trade-in part seemed exceptionally slow, possibly because I wanted their quote to give to a potential buyer. An inspector came to me and went over the vehicle thoroughly. The quote was as others have indicated, low. I didn't particularly mind any of that.

Tesla was responsive throughout and provided all the answers to my questions. The Tesla specialists were actually more proactive than expected.

I took my somewhat rare Audi RS4 cabriolet to CarMax to get a competitive quote, sent in photos of the problematic areas of wear and Tesla increased their offer to match CaxMax's price.
1 hour at CarMax, ~30 minutes of photo time, = $4K better trade-in price and resulting decrease in sales tax. Worth it for me.
