Help with exterior color....

I got the invite to config my sig X (#171) and am struggling with the exterior color. Waffling actually!:crying:
I have a MC red on a P85D and would like to try a different color.

I plan to go with the white interior. I was leaning toward the sig red but might be too close to the MC red that would make me look like a red lover! :tongue:
I know it seems a bit extreme, but this stock pic in the design studio looks pretty good!

My question is how different is the pearl white vs white (I have search the Model S threads).

Any input from previous Sig owners who got the white interior and what they matched their exterior color with?
Finally, besides glare issues with some of the interior options that I have read about, it really is just personal preference on what interior trim option to go with correct? No major issues with any of the materials right?

I think the sig red is beautiful and doesn't look too close to MC red. I have not seen the two whites together and can not advise re those. All interior trims are personal preference

My friends have carbon fiber and love it; I think it looks a bit masculine.

I had some serious waffling going on too! Plus I had the added benefit of getting wife to agree. Luckily the factory is close by. So I called for a factory tour and got one today.

Before going my wife was leaning blue. She doesn't like red cars. After the tour and walking around and seeing all the colors including a sig red. Our decision changed to titanium. Sig red came in second. Pearl white third.

Here are some snaps of the Sig Red in parking lot.

The Blue looked fantastic on one of the Model X mules that was seen recently. Just IMO and I have no skin in the X game.

the plain white seems to pop in your pictures more than the pearl...what about it made it #3?

I have the CF in my Model S and agree it looks awesome. I like it more than I thought I would. I just didn't want to repeat it the scheme for another Tesla in my garage! But yes, maybe I shouldn't worry about it and do the CF in both.

Blue is good. Its just that our Cayenne is blue and it would just seem like a redo for us.

I walked my wife through the options, we're going with Sig Red and all-black interior with CF accents. She hasn't thought much of the other options to this point, and she says the ash wood option reminds her of a mid-1980's Jaguar *shudder*. Only thing that would make it better is red piping on the seats.

Likewise, I don't believe you can mistake MC red vs. Sig red, they're nothing close and the sig red is just gorgeous.

I have Carbon Fiber in the Sig Red S and it has been an excellent choice with the white leather. It works with every seat color and it does not reflect images. There is a touch of sheen, but it's just the right amount. So why did I switch to Figured Ash with the X, because there was just something about it that I liked. If it is glossy, it would be disappointing. But Tesla has written that it is between glossy and matte.

I have loved the Signature Red for almost 3 years. Great color and the complements are wonderful to hear. Having both S and X in Sig Red will be a double blessing, unless I say "why did I order the wood?" With the tan seats, this will be a return to the Escalade days, and it is red! Both have a towing package, so the Escalade can finally get a worthy replacement with Model X.

All completely subjective, of course, but fwiw, my top 2 choices would be titanium and blue.

Perhaps more useful, I'm not a fan of red cars at all but I like that signature red on the Model S Bradleybang just shared.

From the photos normal white looks more white than pearl white. It would look great with the white interior.

Hey Piano! Didn't know you were on here! I ended up getting the pearl white. White has more pop though and looks more white. I was debating so much I went to the Tesla store at the mall to look at a pearl white car and their color swatches on the wall.

According to a senior product specialist, pearl white (and the MC red) are the most durable finishes due to the fact they have the most extra clear coats on them. If you prefer a "more whiter white", then that's the white. The MC pearl white has kind of a sheen/glow to it due to the extra clear coats on top of the paint. It's also less of a plain white color and more pearly - hence the name.

I would suggest that if you live close enough to a Tesla Store or Service Center to call ahead to see if they have both Model S white and pearl white available for you to see, and then go check it out in person. It's hard to describe them.

As for our color choices, my wife originally preferred white because of the shade, but I think she'll be OK with pearl white after I explain the durability benefits. If it were just up to me, I'd get MC red. I also love the metallic blue color. (Sig red will not be available to me since I didn't make a Sig reservation.)

For really long term durability, I think pearl white followed by white are the best choices because they reflect more sunlight and heat up less than any other color. I have a white 2000 ML 320 SUV my son drives, and the paint still looks like new. I've seen a lot of older black cars with chipped/cracked paint. I once leased a black E350 with black leather that was like an oven after I left it parked outside in the California sun. Had the same issue to a lesser extent with my black/black/black ragtop CLK 550 Cabriolet. No more black paint or leather for me! Also, it's impossible to keep a black-painted car looking clean unless you visit the car wash every week. Life is too short to do that IMHO.

thanks I did go to the store and look at a pearl white in person. I opted for that in my config, but after seeing the sig red thread I am again waffling.

I did like the white in my Roadster, known as Arctic white...it isn't as brownish as the Pearl white.

Flat white is more bold I would say and the pearl white is more elegant (subjective I know). I still love Sig red. Agree that people won't get confused with the two colors (MC and Sig red) next to each other. They are fairly different.

Good luck; color was my last, and hardest decision and it took over a month. When I decided, I placed the order in minutes.
I went with MC Pearl White.
That was March of '14. If I had it to do all over again, I'd choose ...MC Pearl White
