PVD black chrome DFW?

Most companies ship them to several regional coaters. Here is one in California. Every shop that is local will try and talk you out of it if they don't have onsite equipment (kills their profitability of the normal paint job)

http://www.calchrome.com/service_blackchrome.php These guys give you a five year warranty on their work. Cost will be between $212-$250 with shipping - they send you the boxes to use

Is PVD worth it?

YES, PVD is a super-hard coating that is by far the most durable coating available today. Superior quality that will out last any traditional finish.

What materials can be coated?

PVD Coatings has proven to adhere best to chrome plated materials and stainless steel. Some materials are not electroplated and the PVD coating is applied directly to the substrate material (Titanium alloys and Graphite). Provided the material is thoroughly chrome plated with a Nickel/Chromium almost any material can be PVD coated.

What surface finish is required?

The PVD coating will not level or fill like an electroplated finish so surface imperfections will still be visible after the coating process. Polished or mirror surfaces are used to produce PVD polished finishes and brushed or satin surfaces to produce satin or matt PVD finishes.

What is the coating thickness?

The coating thickness is usually between 0.25 microns and 5 microns for decorative finishes. Thicker coatings can be applied for functional coatings.

What temperature is the part exposed to?

Depending on the substrate material (Zinc, Brass, Steel or Plastic) the process temperature can be controlled from 50 degree Fahrenheit to 400 degree Fahrenheit.

How good is the corrosion protection?

Most of the industry standards are based on neutral salt spray (ASTM B117) or CASS (Copper-Accelerated Acetic Acid-Salt Spray)(ASTM-B368). Zirconium Nitride (ZrN) has shown to surpass 1200 hours of neutral salt spray and over 150 hours CASS on electroplated brass.

What Colors are available?

Depending on the evaporated metal (target) and the mixture of reactive gases used during the PVD deposition process, different colors can be produced. The range includes but not limited to: Brass tones, Gold tones, Black to Grey, Nickel, Chrome, Copper and Bronze tones. All these finishes are available in a polished, satin or matt finish.

How do I clean my PVD?

PVD maintenance is simple. You can use a soft cloth with mild soap and water. Avoid all products designed to remove tarnish or rust, and contain hydrochloric, hydrofluoric, and/or phosphoric acid or caustic agents. Also bleach and scouring pads (such as Scotch Brite®).

How hard is the coating?

The lifetime Brass finish is Zirconium Nitride (ZrN) and has a hardness of 2800 Vickers or HRc-80.

How should I send you my product?

Product must be received clean: completely disassembled, free of adhesive, oil, grease, powders, polishing compounds, and either Chrome Plated or Stainless Steel.

What is the largest item you can PVD?

Our systems are capable of high volume coatings.
Load Diameter = 35 inches or 900 mm.
Load Height = 60 inches or 1524 mm.
Load Mass = up to 6613 lbs or 3000 kg.

Can you coat over ABS plastic?

Yes, as long as the ABS plastic is properly chrome plated!

How long do I have to wait to get my product back?

PVD Coating delivers quality service in a timely manner, our standard turn around time is 5-10 working days.

Yes we did these for the service center! I'm so glad you like them, probably my favorite color for the wheels. You should post a pic of them on the car, I would love to see the finished product.

sweet! I might have to call on you again. I have a model X on order and it should be one of the first in DFW...but comes with stock silver wheels...I might have to ask you for some help with that...LOL:tongue:

but, i did curb one of the wheels just recently and it's driving me nuts that I might have to have you touch it up.:cursing:

anyways here is a pic when it was at the service center.

Resurrecting this thread. Did you ever do this for your X? I just placed an order for the Pearl White and want to do the wheels the same way. Any pictures, costs and details about how long it took would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.
